Hobo with a Shotgun Images are Violent and Strange

Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez are enjoying some unexpected success from their disappointing 2007 attempt to bring back Grindhouse-style double features.

Even though Planet Terror and Death Proof didn’t garner the box office success some people thought they deserved, several of the faux trailers they commissioned to accompany those films are being made into full-length feature films – Machete, Hobo with a Shotgun and Thanksgiving.

Machete (by Robert Rodriguez) chopped its way into theaters this past summer; Thanksgiving (Eli Roth’s horror film) is in the planning stages; and Jason Eisener’s dark comedy/action/vigilante film Hobo with a Shotgun will be in theaters later this year. Hobo with a Shotgun will have its world premier at the midnight opening of the Sundance Film Festival this month, and they’ve released several production stills in advance.

You can see all five pictures below or head over to Collider for a bigger version of each:

If you aren’t familiar with the story for Hobo with a Shotgun then be sure to read it below - although it’s pretty straightforward:

A hobo hops from a train with dreams of a fresh life in a new city, but instead finds himself trapped in an urban hell. When he witnesses a brutal robbery, he realizes the only way to deliver justice is with a shotgun in his hands and two shells in the chamber.

Just like the fake trailer, Hobo with a Shotgun was directed by Jason Eisner and written by John Davies. The film stars veteran actor Rutger Hauer (The Rite) as the Hobo, Gregory Smith (Small Soldiers), Jeremy Akerman (K-19: The Widowmaker), Nick Bateman, Molly Dunsworth and Mark Owen.

I’m not sure what to expect from this film but based on the images of a guy wearing a suit of armor while riding a motorcycle, the photo of a guy sporting duct tape underwear with a shotgun zipper and the unrated trailer for Hobo with a Shotgun –  the film should be a fun and violent ride.

Hobo with a Shotgun unloads two barrels of homeless justice in theaters in 2011.
