IO Interactive has announced Hitman Trilogy, a single package including all three games in the World of Assassination trilogy which will be available across platforms, as well as Xbox Game Pass at launch. The Hitman 3 roadmap officially dropped in November 2021, with IO Interactive revealing the many plans it has for the Hitman franchise in 2022. Having wrapped up its 2021 post-launch content and having concluded Hitman 3’s Seven Deadly Sins DLC on October 26, fans have wondered what lies beyond for the series.

In its roadmap, IO Interactive announced a full year of updates for Hitman 3, including new maps, features, and enhanced technologies like ray tracing and the debut of its VR mode on PC. This follows a fully packed 2021, which included all seven installments of the Seven Deadly Sins DLC, ending with Wrath. The first part of the themed content pack, Greed, arrived in March and was followed by Pride, Sloth, Lust, Gluttony, and Envy. Each of Hitman 3’s Seven Deadly Sins-themed DLC packs includes a unique Escalation mission, as well as a set of new in-game items for Agent 47 to play with.

Revealed during the Hitman 3 - Year 2 Reveal Stream and later shared to Twitter, IO Interactive announced the Hitman Trilogy, which includes all three games “from the World of Assassination.” The digital download will be available across various platforms on January 20, including PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, as well as on PC via the Epic Games Store and Steam. It was also confirmed that Hitman Trilogy will release day one on Xbox Game Pass, adding to its ever-expanding library. The collection combines Hitman 1, Hitman 2, and Hitman 3 compiled into a single package,” though it’s unlikely the compilation will include all purchasable DLC packs. The release of Hitman Trilogy coincides with the arrival of Hitman 3 on Steam, which includes full PC VR support and all technical improvements like ray tracing.

The Hitman 3 – Year 2 reveal stream announced a lot of what was already confirmed via last year’s 2022 roadmap, however, there were a few additional surprises. Among the various DLC is the new Elusive Target Arcade game mode, Codename: Rocky map, and Hitman Freelancer, a single-player mode coming to Hitman 3 that offers roguelike elements, as well as strategic planning and a customizable safehouse. Considering IO Interactive is also developing a new James Bond game, the level of support the developer is offering Hitman 3 post-launch is surprising.

What isn’t as surprising is Hitman Trilogy’s launch on Xbox Game Pass. Rumors have been floating around that Xbox Game Studios is looking to acquire new developers, one of which is IO Interactive. Though no further information regarding the potential purchase has surfaced, it’s possible Xbox Game Studios has established a positive relationship with IOI, which may be the reason the company scored Hitman Trilogy as a day one release for Xbox Game Pass.
