Hulu unveils the first trailer for the latest animated Marvel series Hit-Monkey centered on the infamous killer monkey and his bloody action. Created by Daniel Way and Dalibor Talajić, the character first debuted in the comics with his 2010 solo line and has expanded into other comic book lines including a three-issue story arc in Deadpool and an appearance in Old Man Logan. Development on the Hit-Monkey series was first announced in early 2019 with Blades of Glory duo Will Speck and Josh Gordon writing and executive producing it for Hulu.

Hit-Monkey revolves around a Japanese snow monkey whose tribe is slaughtered along with American assassin Bryce, whose spirit becomes tied to Monkey and mentors him to begin killing their way through the Yakuza underworld as revenge for the slaughter. The series stars Fred Tatasciore as the titular hero alongside Jason Sudeikis as Bryce, George Takei as politician Shinji, Olivia Munn as his niece Akiko, Ally Maki as Tokyo cop Haruka and Nobi Nakanishi as struggling Tokyo officer Ito. Initially planned as part of a shared universe of animated Marvel shows leading up to the crossover special The Offenders, the series will instead air as a stand-alone project and is now right around the corner to hit the streaming platform.

Given he is still a relatively newer character, Hit-Monkey may not be one general audiences will immediately flock to in the same vein as other Marvel titles, though the first trailer is sure to capture the attention of many. Between its stylish animation, eccentric hero and sense of humor and its strong ensemble voice cast, there is certainly plenty for those unfamiliar with the character to find intriguing enough to give the series a watch. With the trailer also displaying plenty of gory action sequences, it seems likely the series will be going for a more mature rating than that of the Disney+ shows, closer in line with fellow Hulu title M.O.D.O.K.

The first trailer for Hit-Monkey should also prove interesting to those familiar with the comics given its seeming deviations in the origin story of the titular hero. Where the comics saw Hit-Monkey distrusting the unnamed Assassin and taking revenge on those directly responsible for his tribe's death immediately, the series seems to point towards the two having built a bond during their time in the Japanese Alps and having to track down the killers over the course of the series. Only time will tell when Hit-Monkey premieres on Hulu on November 17.
