The His Dark Materials season 3 trailer is finally here. HBO and BBC's fantasy drama is based on the book trilogy by Philip Pullman, which itself is a reimagining of John Milton's epic poem, Paradise Lost. The show follows an orphan named Lyra (played by Logan's Dafne Keen) who, while searching for a missing friend, discovers a kidnapping conspiracy involving an invisible cosmic substance called Dust, which leads her an epic adventure through a multi-world reality.

Other than Keen leading the His Dark Materials cast, the fantasy show's massive ensemble also includes Ruth Wilson, Amir Wilson, Simone Kirby, Will Keen, Jade Anouka, Ruta Gedminstas, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jamie Ward, X-Men's James McAvoy, Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda, and many more. Premiering in 2019, His Dark Materials season 1 adapted the first book in Pullman's series, The Golden Compass, and season 2 followed suit by adapting the second book, The Subtle Knife. His Dark Materials season 3, which was greenlit two years ago, adapts the final book in the trilogy, The Amber Spyglass. His Dark Materials season 3's premiere date was just revealed and now, the first full look at the final season is here.

Why His Dark Materials Season 3 Will Be The Wildest Yet

His Dark Materials Season 3 Premiere Date & Full Schedule Revealed

Based on the His Dark Materials season 3 trailer, it appears fans could be in for the wildest season yet. After being absent for nearly all of season 2, McAvoy's Lord Asriel returns to form an army comprised of witches and rebel angels to wage a great war against the Authority. Miranda is also back as Lee Scoresby after his tragic demise at the end of season 2 and is now in the alternate dimension known as the Land of the Dead where the deceased roam.

The Amber Spyglass is widely considered to be the weirdest installment in Pullman's trilogy, so fans already knew they were likely in for the wildest season yet. The show's lead star, Keen, echoed this sentiment in a recent interview, saying "Season 3 is wild. It's 100 percent the weirdest thing I've ever shot in my entire life." The trailer indicates His Dark Materials season 3 will follow the basic beats of the third and final novel as Lyra and Will journey to the Land of the Dead to fulfill a prophecy. The journey begins when His Dark Materials season 3 premieres December 5 on HBO.
