HBO's His Dark Materials will be returning to the network with brand new episodes this November. The series, which premiered on HBO in 2019, debuted to a warm reception from critics and fans alike. Its freshman season is currently sitting at a fresh 80 percent critical and 81 percent audience rating, respectively, on Rotten Tomatoes. The series was quickly renewed for season 2, while season 1 was still in production, and a new trailer for the upcoming season was released in August, showcasing what's to come.

According to the official His Dark Materials Twitter page, the series will be returning for season 2 on HBO on November 16th. New episodes will be airing on HBO and will also be available for streaming on the network's streaming service, HBO Max. The announcement also included a brand new poster for season 2, which is included in the post below.

While the vast majority of the show's original cast will be returning, there are some new additions to season 2. It was previously announced Terrence Stamp would be joining the cast and Jade Anouka and Simone Kirby. Season 2 will expand on the established characters from season 1, such as Andrew Scott's John Parry, and delve into the new characters played by Stamp, Kirby, and Anouka.

The official plot synopsis for season 2 reads,

Season two of His Dark Materials begins after Lord Asriel has opened a bridge to a new world, and, distraught over the death of her best friend, Lyra follows Asriel into the unknown. In a strange and mysterious abandoned city, she meets Will, a boy from our world who is also running from a troubled past. Lyra and Will learn their destinies are tied to reuniting Will with his father but find their path is constantly thwarted as a war begins to brew around them. Meanwhile, Mrs. Coulter searches for Lyra, determined to bring her home by any means necessary.

Fans will finally get to see if their questions from season 1 are answered when the highly anticipated His Dark Materials season 2 premieres on HBO November 16, 2020.
