The trailer for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 2 previews the teen drama’s return to Disney+. One of the first original programs to be available on the streaming service, the show initially focused on a group of teenagers at East High School as they participate in a stage play of the High School Musical movie. The show’s cast includes Olivia Rodrigo, Joshua Bassett, Matt Cornett, Sofia Wylie, Larry Saperstein, Julia Lester, Dara Reneé, Frankie Rodriguez, Mark St. Cyr, and Kate Reinders.

Though the actors would return for a Christmas special, High School Musical: The Series season 1 concluded in early January 2020. This has kept fans eager to catch a glimpse of the show’s sophomore installment, which will feature the students competing against a rival school and performing a version of Beauty and the Beast. The sneak peek puts the competition front and center, showing why Miss Jenn (Reinders) feels compelled to stage a recreation of Beauty and the Beast after running into her charming ex-boyfriend Zack (played by Derek Hough). The trailer similarly sheds some light on potential problems for Ricky (Bassett) and Nini (Rodrigo) as they embark on a long-distance relationship. The upcoming season is also set to feature brand new songs written by Rodrigo and Bassett, both of whom have experienced surges in their popularity for their respective singles “Driver’s License” and “Lie, Lie, Lie.”

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 2 will serve as a be a showcase for the rest of the cast as well, with showrunner Tim Federle promising to spotlight the talented ensemble. With new episodes set to premiere on May 14, the long wait is almost over.
