Fresh off the heels of Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima recently announced on Twitter he is looking to dip back into the horror genre for his next project. This would not be Kojima's first venture within the world of horror, as he was also responsible for one of the most highly regarded horror game concept pieces of all time. That game was the iconic P.T., which wasn't even a full-length title but instead simply a demo experience which could take players anywhere from one to four hours to complete.

Meant to tease the next installment of the beloved Silent Hill series and developed by Kojima Productions, as well as designed and directed by Hideo Kojima in collaboration with Guillermo del Toro, P.T. was an acronym for "playable teaser" and released on the PlayStation Store as a free download in August of 2014, but was later taken down after the untitled Silent Hill project was cancelled. Not only were fans disappointed at the game's cancellation, but they were also upset they could no longer download P.T. at all, which many felt was an incredible experience in its own right.

Now, the gaming community is getting hints from Kojima himself on the developer's Twitter page which suggest another horror game is in the works. In his message, Hideo Kojima says he is watching multiple scary movies to "awaken his horror soul," which apparently includes the Thai horror film The Eye. The kicker, though, is his reason for watching these films: so he can "make the scariest horror game." It will likely arrive a long, long way away considering how recently Death Stranding was released, but fans will be pleased to know he'll be working on another spooky game regardless.

While Kojima Productions, the game studio Kojima founded, has been around since 2005, it was under the umbrella of Konami for a decade. During the partnership, the majority of the entire Metal Gear series was produced, which skyrocketed the studio to fame as the titles became part of one of the most well-renowned game franchises ever created. However, tensions rose between the two parties until Kojima left Konami and was finally able to break out his own independent studio in December of 2015. Death Stranding was Kojima Productions' first release on their own, and has gone on to be the biggest IP launch Japan has had this console generation.

Fans love Kojima just as much as they love his games, and have enjoyed seeing him thrive with the creative freedom such independence has given him and his team. They may have to wait a good long while for the next release after Death Stranding, but at least they will have something amazing, and probably terrifying, to look forward to.
