Hideo Kojima isn't as welcoming of a digital future as other people, as he has expressed concern over things like the preservation of media. As technology evolves, many major companies and consumers are moving towards digital futures. Things like Netflix have massively impacted physical movie sales and rental stores, video games are largely being sold digitally, and much more. Hideo Kojima fears that this isn't a smart future and could actually be somewhat dangerous.

Hideo Kojima is quite outspoken about his feelings, whether it be concerning envy over other pieces of art or trends in entertainment. Given his prominence in the industry, he's certainly one of the most informed people to listen to regarding entertainment. Kojima has an extensive love for all things movies and games, even allowing himself access to renowned directors and actors. With that said, he's definitely got some worthwhile insight into the entertainment industry and he has some concerns about the future.

Hideo Kojima shared a series of tweets expressing his fears of the loss of media due to lack of preservation in a digital future. The prolific game developer noted that an accident could result in films, music, and more being lost if not protected, stating the lack of ownership is problematic. This is a bit noteworthy as Hideo Kojima is reportedly working with Xbox on a cloud-based game, meaning it would likely be using a lot of technology that would be impossible without servers and the internet.

Of course, these are just rumors that may not even be true, but they come from reputable sources. Should Kojima be making a game of this nature, it does raise the question of how he's working to preserve the work. Hideo Kojima is one for embracing technology, as seen in many of his games, but it's clear the actual long-term retention of art is still very important to him. The likes of Christopher Nolan are working to preserve film, it'll be interesting to see if Kojima works to do something similar.

The game director has already seen some of his work get lost to time as Hideo Kojima's work on the Fox Engine will be largely discarded by Konami. The engine was only used for Metal Gear Solid VP.T.Metal Gear Survive, and the PES series, Konami will be moving forward without it and using Unreal Engine 5 in future titles. Whether or not this is part of what sparked these thoughts from Hideo Kojima is unclear.
