Among the countless side quests and collectibles in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Korok seeds are the most numerous and widespread. There are Koroks almost everywhere, with the first 441 being used in upgrades and a total of a whopping 900 to find. It's a task for only those trying to 100% Breath of the Wild as it will test the patience of any player, completionist or not. Compounded on that, the reward for collecting all 900 Koroks is a nonfunctional item that cannot even be displayed in Link's house, but it may have been the perfect choice for a reward.

Collecting Korok seeds has merit, no matter the play style, as they can be used to increase Link's inventory space. When players find some Koroks and receive seeds from them, they can bring them to Hestu, and he will give them the option to increase the weapon, shield, or bow inventory. Every upgrade costs more Korok seeds than the last, and it will take 441 seeds to reach the maximum inventory size Link can have. In that way, the reward for finding the first 441 seeds is fairly worth it, and if that's where the Korok seed hunt ends, then players don't have to worry about seeking out the remaining 459 Koroks.

For players who want to complete The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as a completionist, they need to find the location of every Korok in BOTW, which can be quite tricky. The Koroks often have a mini-game of some kind to be completed before they will appear and hand over their seed. So it can take quite a lot of time not just to find them all but also to complete their challenges. It makes sense then that there would be some reward for dedicating so much time to searching out the elusive Koroks, especially when some of BOTW's Koroks are hard to find. But at the same time, it shouldn't be a significant objective as players don't really need to collect all 900 Koroks in BOTW.

Why Hestu's Gift Was a Perfect Choice in The Legend of Zelda: BOTW

Link being given Hestu's Gift in The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild which resembles a pile of poop

The golden pile of feces players receives, yes, the developers confirmed that is what it is meant to be, is also based on a traditional Japanese pun. The word for poop and the word for luck sound similar at the beginning when spoken and therefore is a commonly spoken pun to make. The creation then of small golden piles of poop has become a popular token of good luck as a funny gift or souvenir. So Hestu's gift can be seen as a joke or a token of good luck to Link.

This makes Hestu's gift largely ceremonial; it serves no purpose other than to prove that the player collected all the Korok seeds scattered throughout Hyrule. If there were an armor piece, a heart container, or some other item significant to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's gameplay, many players would be frustrated by having to collect an extra 459 Korok seeds to receive an insignificant item. So instead, players get the traditional prize of a completionist; bragging rights.
