He’s All That, the upcoming gender-swapped remake of She’s All That, has been picked up by Netflix. She’s All That was first released in 1999 starring Rachel Leigh Cook and Freddie Prinze Jr. and featuring such popular young actors as Paul Walker, Matthew Lillard, and Clea Duvall.

He’s All That is an updated version of the 90s classic that tells the story from a teenage girl’s point of view. It stars TikTok breakout Addison Rae as Padgett Sawyer, an influencer who accepts a bet to turn the school loser, Cobra Kai star Tanner Buchanan, into the prom king. According to Deadline, Netflix acquired the film for more than $20 million.

He’s All That sees the return of Rachel Leigh Cook and Matthew Lillard, and also features Madison Pettis, Isabella Crovetti, and Annie Jacob. The film was written by original She’s All That screenwriter R. Lee Fleming and directed by Mark Waters (Mean Girls, Freaky Friday).

The original film saw stars Cook and Prinze Jr. quickly rise to teen film stardom. She’s All That updated the classic George Bernard Shaw play Pygmalion and its musical adaptation My Fair Lady, with Cook playing Laney Boggs, the bespectacled, paint-splattered geek who, with contacts and a quick brow pluck, becomes a knockout with the help of Prinze Jr.’s Zack. Addison Rae is already on her way to stardom and, with more than 59 million followers on TikTok, she has a built-in audience. With a twenty-two-year gap between films, He’s All That comes out at a time when teen films are highly sought after and gender-swapping is utilized to contemporize old tropes.
