He’s All That is now available to stream on Netflix, so it’s a good time to discuss everything we know about He’s All That 2. The teen romantic comedy is a gender-swapped remake of the popular 1999 film She’s All That. Tailored towards Generation Z, the new movie has a heavy focus on social media, with TikTok star Addison Rae making her acting debut as protagonist Padgett Sawyer.

She’s All That is a modern spin on the play Pygmalion and the 1964 Audrey Hepburn musical My Fair Lady, transporting the story to the 1990s social politics of a Southern Californian high school. The film follows Zack (Freddie Prinze Jr.), who attempts to preserve his popularity after a breakup by betting he can turn art geek Laney Boggs (Rachel Leigh Cook) into a prom queen. He’s All That takes the same premise but flips the scenario to have social media influencer Padgett give a makeover to photographer and social outcast Cameron (Tanner Buchanan), initially hoping to regain lost followers.

Of course, the cruel bet turns into legitimate romance for Padgett and Cameron, with the former supposedly learning to be more honest with herself and less fixated on her social media following. Two members of the original film’s cast joined the remake, but some viewers will be disappointed not to see a proper reunion or the return of the actors’ 1999 characters. Here’s when He’s All That 2 could be released and what the story may involve.

Will Netflix Make He's All That 2?

Currently, Netflix has not greenlit He’s All That 2. Whether this will happen depends largely on audience engagement, but the critical response doesn’t bode well for a sequel. Most reviews panned the loosely connected He’s All That’s acting and shallow plot, lacking the charm of She’s All That. Conversely, Netflix doesn’t always listen to critics, having released three Kissing Booth films despite each installment receiving dismal reviews. However, audience reaction to the remake has been largely negative from the outset, and He’s All That sits in the 30% range for both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, making a sequel unlikely.

If Netflix does decide to pursue a sequel, He’s All That 2 likely won’t release before 2023 at the earliest. Tanner Buchanan will be busy filming Cobra Kai season 5 in Atlanta during Fall 2021. Addison Rae currently doesn’t have another film announced, so it’s always possible He’s All That 2 could move ahead without all the first film’s cast, but this is doubtful. Netflix has many upcoming films for 2021 and beyond, so He’s All That 2 is unlikely to be a priority.

He's All That 2 Cast

Although no announcement had been made, it’s safe to say He’s All That 2 would bring back at least most of its main cast. If Rae wishes to further her acting career, returning as Padgett could provide a useful platform to hone her skills. Its’ also possible He’s All That 2 would want to further utilize Rachel Leigh Cook and Matthew Lillard, whose roles were effectively cameos in the remake. He’s All That 2 could always generate goodwill by finding a way to bring back Freddie Prinze Jr.

He's All That 2 Story Details

With no announcement regarding He’s All That 2, it’s difficult to speculate on what the story would be. He’s All That was a self-contained film, but it’s doubtful Padgett would relinquish her life as an influencer. He’s All That 2 could explore the relationships of He's All That's cast, including Padgett and Cameron post-high school, and how they might have changed, also giving more screen time to supporting characters. However, considering the premise stems from Pygmalion in 1913, perhaps another interpretation exploring entirely new characters in a different setting could be a better idea.
