  • Fans previously speculated Toru could be the UA traitor, but she has played a crucial role in the storyline.

The creator of My Hero Academia, Kohei Horikoshi, finally revealed the full look of Toru Hagakure, Invisible Girl. Toru's powers mean she is constantly invisible, and fans were able to get only a quick glimpse at her face until now. An official illustration celebrating My Hero Academia's 34th volume finally shows Toru completely visible.

In the world of My Hero Academia, the majority of people are born with unique abilities, called Quirks. These vary in power and usefulness, and while many Quirks make life easier for their owners, some have important drawbacks. In Toru Hagakure's case, her Quirk, "Invisibility," makes light refract through her body, so her physical features can't be observed. During the "U.A. Traitor" arc, however, Toru was hit by Yuga Aoyama's Navel Laser attack, which heated her body enough that part of Invisible Girl's face became briefly visible. Now, a new sketch from Horikoshi is finally revealing her full appearance.

Toru Hagakure Becomes Visible for the First Time

Now, fans can get a full look at Invisible Girl's body, thanks to her creator Kohei Horikoshi, who shared on his Twitter account an illustration to celebrate the release of volume #34 of the manga. This is a tradition for Horikoshi, who this time chose as subjects for his drawing Toru and her classmate Eijiro Kirishima (Red Riot), dressed as pirates. This is the first time that Invisible Girl is shown without her power being active.

In the past, when it became clear that there was a traitor in class 1-A, many theories pointed toward Invisible Girl being My Hero Academia's Traitor because her powers make her the perfect spy. Horikoshi masterfully played with this speculation, making fans believe Toru really was the traitor until the very last moment when the culprit was revealed as Yuga Aoyama. Toru was actually essential in finding out the truth, and the reveal of Invisible Girl's face was a climactic moment in the arc that fans loved, just like they will love this full look at Invisible Girl's features.

How Important is Invisible Girl in My Hero Academia?

My Hero Academia: Toru Hagakure presents her hero name.

Overall, Toru Hagakure is a tertiary character in the greater story of My Hero Academia. Even among the students of Class 1-A, she has received very little focus, likely because it's rather difficult to have a storyline centered around a character that usually appears as a pair of floating gloves and boots.

Still, she has had some moments to shine. Hagakure worked with Shoji in the Final Exams arc to defeat their teacher, Snipe. Her stealth skills were critical in his defeat, as Hagakure managed to handcuff him before he even noticed she was close. In the Provisional Licensing Exam, Toru was able to use her power to act as a lens, creating a burst of light which blinded opponents and allowed her teammates to score.

By far her biggest moment, however, was her role in the UA Traitor arc. Toru stealthily followed Aoyama out into the woods, and witnessed him communicating with All for One, which she soon reported to the teachers. This was obviously the sort of thing that only she could do, and it put her skills to use in the perfect way, especially considering all the fan suspicion towards her being the traitor. This set the stage for the Final War, giving the heroes a crucial leg-up in the initial attack.

Invisible Girl Sparked Controversy in Another Image

My Hero Academia: Hagakure's Face in full color from ch. 368's controversial cover.

A full-color image of Invisible Girl Toru Hagakure appeared in Chapter 368, offering fans even more detail as to her appearance. However, the nature of the image, which depicted Toru in the nude covered only by a "keep out" tape, drew negative reactions from many fans, as the character's young age made the image questionable at best. Horikoshi later apologized for the image, saying that it wasn't meant for publication and had somehow been submitted in an attempt to meet a tight deadline. Still, the colored image offered fans her hair and eye colors for the first time.

My Hero Academia has entered its final arc, with the heroes battling the assembled forces of the villain All for One. The large cast of interesting characters that make up class 1-A made it hard to give each of them their deserved spotlight throughout the manga, and Toru is definitely one that fans would have loved to see more of. While it may be too late for that, as My Hero Academia set to conclude soon, fans can at least enjoy this amazing full look at Invisible Girl, courtesy of Kohei Horikoshi.

In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child, he has always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of a quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the "One-For-All" quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.
