Warning: Contains Spoilers for Chapter #370 of My Hero AcademiaThe story of My Hero Academia took a bit of a turn when the Paranormal Liberation Front was introduced, offering a good reason why people in this world might side with the villains. Any illusions of All for One becoming a Magneto-like liberator of mutants, however, has been extinguished based on his actions in the latest chapter.

In My Hero Academia, the Paranormal Liberation Front was a group of people who advocated for the free use of quirks, and which actively worked to defend and aid those with "mutant" quirks, who were often pushed out of society for their strange and sometimes dangerous appearances. The group came in conflict with All for One's League of Villains and was eventually absorbed into them, creating the newly-crowned Meta Liberation Army, which took cues from the Paranormal Liberation Front's messaging and made the concerns of mutants and the free use of quirks a key talking point, which won over many new supporters, particularly among the mutant population.

A scene in chapter 329 showed that All for One offered extra quirks to many of his lieutenants, including the lizard-like mutant Spinner, who chose to accept. The given quirk appeared to be a gigantification quirk akin to Mount Lady's, but chapter 370 reveals that wasn't quite the case. As Spinner has used this quirk to grow larger, his ability to think has become clouded--and one of Spinner's key attributes initially was his cunning strategic mind. Whatever may be happening to Spinner, it's a sure bet that All for One knew it would happen as soon as he offered a quirk to him. After all, it's known that when All For One gave a quirk to Lady Nagant, he also secretly included a self-destruct quirk that nearly killed her--why would he not do something similar to Spinner to keep him under control?

Spinner's New Quirk Proves All for One Doesn't Respect His Kind

While the X-Men's Magneto declares himself a liberator of the mutants from harassment by humans, he really means what he says, and that's given the villain an interesting layer of complexity that helped build fans. All for One may have taken up the cause's banner, but he has no actual desire to help them; instead, he's taking advantage of disgruntled mutants to use as cannon fodder in his war with the heroes. Despite having known Spinner and seen his loyalty to the cause for a while now, All for One still doesn't respect Spinner as a person, and ruining the mutant's intellect to further his cause proves it. All for One already has mindless minions that can enact his will for him, like the Nomu, but he still chose to destroy Spinner's mind in order to gain another one--and only Spinner, not his other lieutenants. It's the ultimate act of selfishness and one that he's pulled off before with My Hero Academia's Gigantomachia.

Spinner has remained interesting among My Hero Academia's villains for perhaps being the least villainous of them all, so watching him fall to a fate like this is rather heartbreaking. Fans can only hope it's not too late for Spinner to break out of it, but with each passing chapter, the odds of that only become less likely.
