One of the best ways to make money in Divinity: Original Sin II is gardening, but how exactly is it done? Gardening can produce several ingredients for crafts in the game such as potions, arrows, and scrolls.

Gardening is not a central part of the Sourcerer's story and thus takes some active exploration to discover. This area where the character can learn to garden is in a fairly early part of the game. The Sourcerer can access it after they crash on the beach.

Where To Learn How To Garden in Divinity Original Sin 2

After waking on the beach with the crashed ship, head to the immediate left towards the ancient statue of Braccus Rex to gain a travel waypoint near the garden area. Then head north from the beach and follow the left-most trail up to the rock, then go towards the statues to the northeast. Hug the left side of the wood until finding the entrance to the Hidden Alcove.

Climb up the vines on the northwest wall of the alcove. Up here there will be an encampment where the Sourcerer can speak with a man called the Elf Herbalist. After which the character can read a book that is sitting nearby titled, "W. Herbert's Guide To Joyful Gardening." The character can then take the plants that the Elf Herbalist has planted around them.

The Sourcerer after this point can also collect any plant across their travels. As long as the Sourcerer has a piece of the plant and a bucket, they can craft them together to create a seedling of that plant.

Plants The Sourcerer Can Collect & Grow

  • Boletus
  • Drudanae
  • Farhangite
  • Puffball

More options of plants may be possible in the future as more players test out the gardening feature. Some mods add the ability to make fertilizers, grow trees, blood roses, and black roses. Once the Sourcerer has collected a couple of seedlings, place them anywhere to create a garden.

These plants can become fully grown within five seconds after placing them. Every time the character harvests the plant after it's fully grown, it will give the player one or more pieces of the plant and leave behind a clay-filled bucket. This clay-filled bucket can be used to craft more seedlings afterward.

To mass-produce the Sourcerer's gardening, the player can plant several seedlings at once inside barrels. Barrels can be bought, grabbed or stolen throughout Rivellon. Once the Sourcerer has collected or found a barrel, simply place the seedlings in the Sourcerer's hand and then into the barrel. Afterward, attack the barrel to release all the seedlings at once.

Once the Sourcerer starts gardening, it will get easier each time afterward. Due to the abundance of supplies nearly everywhere in Rivellon, once the player has found a quiet and fairly peaceful spot to garden, this can be a tedious but fruitful venture.
