Here's every one of Henry Cavill's upcoming movies and TV shows. Best known nowadays for playing super-human characters like Kal-El and Geralt of Rivia, Cavill got his start in the early 2000s, landing key roles in films like the 2002 adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo. He quickly made an impression on Hollywood and even found himself in the running to take over playing James Bond from Pierce Brosnan after that. It didn't work out (in part because Casino Royale director Martin Campbell felt Cavill was just too young at the time), but he continued to make his way as a character actor throughout the '00s and deliver memorable turns in films like Stardust and Showtime's series The Tudors.

Jump to the present and Cavill's made a proper name for himself thanks to his well-received roles as the DCEU's Superman (the divisiveness of his movies aside), the untrustworthy, but impressively mustached, August Walker in Mission: Impossible - Fallout, and the quick-witted thief turned secret agent Napoleon Solo in Guy Ritchie's cult movie adaptation of the 1960s TV show, The Man From UNCLE. When it comes to playing the Man of Steel, however, his future is uncertain. Warner Bros. reportedly isn't convinced Cavill can lead another DCEU Superman film at this juncture, and it's unclear when, if ever, he'll be donning the Kryptonian symbol for hope on the big screen again.

The small screen, on the other hand, is another matter. In fact, all of Cavill's upcoming movies and TV shows will be making their way to the masses via a streaming service, as opposed to a theatrical run.

Enola Holmes

Up first for Cavill is Enola Holmes, a movie adaptation of Nancy Springer's book series of the same name about Sherlock Holmes' younger crime-solving sister, Enola. Stranger Things' Millie Bobby Brown is starring as Enola opposite Cavill as Sherlock in the film, with Sam Claflin playing their equally-brilliant sibling Mycroft and Helena Bonham Carter rounding out the main cast as the trio's mother, Eudoria. Unlike other recent screen versions of Sherlock and older traditional takes on the character, Cavill's iteration of the super-sleuth is said to be perfectly capable when it comes to expressing emotions and empathizing with others. In an unexpected twist, this has also led the Conan Doyle Estate to launch a lawsuit against Netflix, saying those elements of the character were introduced in the ten Sherlock stories (published from 1923-27) they still own the rights to, rather than Doyle's earlier work. Netflix had been planning to begin streaming the movie in September, so for now Holmes-fanatics will have to wait and see what happens next.

Zack Snyder's Justice League

Whatever happens on the big screen, Cavill will be back in action as Superman (this time, minus the digitally-removed mustache) when Zack Snyder's cut of Justice League stream on HBO Max in 2021. The film will restore Snyder's original vision for the movie prior to Joss Whedon's extensive reshoots and may be released as either a miniseries or one big four-hour long movie. Whedon reportedly wrote as many as 80 new script pages for his version of the DCEU's big crossover, so it's safe to assume Snyder's Justice League will look and feel very different from the film's theatrical cut. The difference should be especially noticeable when it comes to Cavill's portrayal of Superman, with leaked footage and images teasing pay-offs to his story threads from earlier DCEU films (like his plan to propose to Lois Lane), along with easter eggs like a special appearance by Kal-El's black costume. However the movie turns out in terms of overall quality, it's safe to assume Cavill's performance will feel more cohesive in Snyder's Justice League than it did in Whedon's.

The Witcher Season 2

The Witcher Henry Cavill as Geralt

Sensing they had a hit on their hands early on, Netflix actually ordered a second season of The Witcher just before season 1 debuted to boffo viewership numbers in December 2019. As a result, production on season 2 was able to get underway for a couple weeks earlier this year, prior to the COVID-19 lockdowns that halted movie and TV productions the world over. Filming is tentatively expected to begin again in August, with Cavill reprising his role as stony monster hunter Geralt opposite Freya Allan as fleeing crown princess Ciri (who finally caught up to Geralt in the final scene of season 1) and Anya Chalotra as the powerful sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg. Season 2 will also dive deeper into The Continent's mythology and cultures, while at the same time introducing key characters like Geralt's old mentor Vesemir (Kim Bodnia). Assuming filming is able to continue when planned, viewers can look forward to more fantasy-adventures with Cavill's lovably grumpy warrior sometime in 2021.
