Henry Cavill’s Superman exit suggests major changes for the DC Universe, including regarding Sasha Calle’s Supergirl future after The Flash. Less than two months after Henry Cavill announced his return as Superman following his cameo in Black Adam, DC Studios’ James Gunn revealed that Superman will be rebooted and that Cavill will not play the Man of Steel in this new version. Gunn’s Superman movie is expected to be the first movie in DC Studios’ new slate.Anything after Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom other than Joker: Folie à Deux and Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe will have been crafted by James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios. As such, the future of every character or storyline introduced in any of DC’s 2022 movies became a mystery as soon as Gunn and Safran’s DC Studios was announced. After Henry Cavill’s Superman exit, however, the DC Universe’s future has become more clear.Related: Will The Other Justice League Members Be Recast Now?

The next Superman movie will be a reboot, meaning that anything that ties into Henry Cavill’s Superman will not return. That likely includes Sasha Calle’s Supergirl, whose origins in The Flash are still a mystery but is linked to Cavill’s Superman and the DCEU regardless. James Gunn’s Superman reboot will not be an origin story but will follow Clark Kent during his early days as Superman, which means that audiences will see new versions not only of Superman but also of Lois Lane and other Superman-related characters. In fact, Gunn’s Superman movie could be the beginning of an entirely new DC Universe.

A complete DCU reboot that recasts not only Henry Cavill’s Superman but the entire Justice League has become far more likely after the Superman reboot news and the cancelation of Wonder Woman 3. 2023 could be the end of the DCEU as audiences have known it since Man of Steel, meaning that elements like The Flash’s Supergirl would not continue. James Gunn is describing DC Studios’ upcoming slate as a “new DCU” whereas Sasha Calle’s Supergirl will be introduced in a movie that is heavily connected to the current DCEU, with Man of Steel’s Zod and Faora confirmed to be in The Flash and thus linking Cavill to Calle.

Will Sasha Calle’s Supergirl Return After The Flash?

A Superman movie reboot means that Superman’s story will start from scratch and that James Gunn’s DC Studios will get to craft its own version of DC’s most famous hero. Therefore, everything points to Sasha Calle’s Supergirl and other DCEU characters not returning after 2023. While Henry Cavill’s Superman is the only DC character whose recast has been confirmed, it would not make sense to reboot the DCEU Superman franchise and not the rest of the Justice League. That considered, it would be interesting if the new DCU could bring back actors and characters that were affected by the franchise’s shake-ups.

For example, Leslie Grace’s Batgirl movie will never be released while Michael Keaton’s Batman return and Sasha Calle’s Supergirl are so far limited to The Flash. If the new DCU continues to use the multiverse concept, then those and other characters could be revisited in the future. There is also the possibility, although a bit more tricky, that Sasha Calle returns as a different version of Supergirl as part of the new DCU’s Superman story. Finally, DC Studios’ James Gunn said that future collaborations with Henry Cavill were discussed, so perhaps the same could happen regarding Sasha Calle and other DCEU actors whose characters might not return.
