Man of Steel's Henry Cavill is very excited for James Gunn to take the lead in the newly reformed DC Studios. Cavill's introduction as Superman in Man of Steel kicked off the DCU (formerly known as the DCEU) in 2013. Although the British actor reprised his Superman role in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017's Justice League, Cavill was notably absent from the DCU until he made his long-awaited return to the franchise at the end of Black Adam, where he confronted Dwayne Johnson in the title role. After his cameo was revealed, Cavill teased Superman's bright future in the DCU.

Cavill's return wasn't the only news to shake up the DCU recently. It was announced on October 25 that James Gunn and Peter Safran have been appointed co-chairs and co-CEOs of the newly formed DC Studios, with Gunn apparently leading the studios' creative decisions while Safran focuses on its business side. The new division of Warner Bros. will replace the former DC Films and will see Gunn and Safran reporting directly to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav. The deal will last four years, and Gunn who was currently working on post-production on Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will now be exclusively tied to the DCU. Naturally, the news caused quite a stir, with many offering their support to Gunn for his DC move.

One of those many to offer support was the DCU's Superman himself. Cavill responded to the news on a recent episode of Josh Horowitz' Happy Sad Confused where he revealed that he was happy about Gunn's new leadership role. Check out Cavill's comment below:

“Yes, yeah, yeah. Very excited about that.”

How James Gunn's DC Role Could Be Good For Henry Cavill's Superman

Superman in Man of Steel

Since Cavill's return to the DCU, speculation about a potential Man of Steel 2 has circulated widely online, but Gunn's new DC leadership role may offer a hint at what's in store. Zach Snyder's direction in the original Man of Steel led the Kryptonian superhero down a darker, more angst-filled path to his destiny that was sometimes criticized for ignoring Clark Kent's optimistic side from the comics. This is a problem that Gunn's leadership could fix. Gunn's work in The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker often showed the director's ability to stay true to the comics while updating characters for a modern audience, so with Gunn having the final say, Cavill's Superman may finally reflect all aspects of his comic book characteristics.

Of course, Cavill's next Superman appearance after Black Adam won't necessarily be Man of Steel 2. Gunn's new position promises a more unified plan for the DCU, so Cavill could have a cameo in various future films or TV shows. This would also be good for Cavill's Superman because it could lend the character some better grounding within the DCU after his 5-year absence. Still, wherever he appears next, Superman fans will eagerly be awaiting Cavill's DCU future.
