After departing from the Netflix series The Witcher, Henry Cavill has already found a new franchise to be a part of. Cavill has continually earned large roles in some of the most popular franchises in entertainment. Early in his career, he was being considered as a final contender to play James Bond in Casino Royale, before Daniel Craig eventually landed the part. Years later, Cavill was chosen to portray Superman/Clark Kent in Man of Steel; he also reprised his superhero alter ego in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and in Justice League. Alongside Cavill’s work as Geralt of Rivia in the hit television adaptation of The Witcher, his most recent role saw him cast as Sherlock Holmes in the Enola Holmes film series.

Despite receiving glowing reviews and record-breaking viewership, The Witcher lost its lead actor, with Henry Cavill announcing that the show’s third season will be his last one, with Liam Hemsworth set to take his place for The Witcher season 4. Not long after this casting change news broke, the British actor was revealed to be a part of Guy Ritchie’s upcoming World War II spy film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Indeed, aside from Cavill’s Superman return following his surprise cameo in Black Adam, it appears Cavill already has future projects secured.

The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare Could Be A New Franchise

Henry Cavill and Guy Ritchie’s reunion film is based on the 2015 novel by war correspondent Damien Lewis titled Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare: How Churchill’s Secret Warriors Set Europe Ablaze and Gave Birth to Modern Black Ops. The movie will tackle the adventures of UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill and James Bond creator Ian Fleming as they form a covert World War II combat organization. The secret group, consisting of methamphetamine-dependent violent renegade soldiers, implementing unconventional techniques to fight Nazi Germany throughout the war.

Given the interesting real-life inspiration behind The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, the film is envisioned as the beginning of a new series. Ritchie, along with the producer of the massive box-office success Top Gun: Maverick, Jerry Bruckheimer, is already planning to shoot the movie with the intention of creating a franchise. After all, it might present a set of fascinating characters, seemingly echoing those of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds.

Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare May Have Contributed To Cavill's Witcher Exit

After Henry Cavill’s departure from The Witcher was announced, speculations on how the team behind the Netflix show may have pushed him to leave surfaced. Although he was a fan of the franchise and instrumental in bringing the television series to life, he had long been voicing his disappointment with the writers’ deviation from the source material. While his decision to leave may have been surprising and devastating for The Witcher fans, these behind-the-scenes issues might have been the deciding factor. Additionally, juggling several franchises at once may be too tedious for Cavill, especially since he intends to return as Superman and has confirmed his part in future DCEU entries. Enlisting in the upcoming movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is probably more enticing for Henry Cavill, as portraying another war spy is likely a less demanding role than staying on as Geralt of Rivia.
