Henry Cavill says he would be very interested in starring in an on-screen live action adaption of the Mass Effect video game series. Since he took on the mantle of Superman in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel and subsequent DCEU films, Cavill has quickly become a global star on TV and film. Outside of the DC universe, the actor has worked on several successful projects, including another major video game adaptation in The Witcher, as well as Enola Holmes, and the Mission Impossible franchise.

While a Hollywood A-lister, Cavill is also well-known for his love of tabletop miniatures and video games. It was this passion that made him so eager to play the part of Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s The Witcher. The series quickly became one of Netflix’s best performing properties, and its success has led to the recent announcements of multiple spin-offs. The Witcher season 2 is set to hit screens on December 17 and will follow on from where season 1 left off. In light of The Witcher's huge successs, earlier this year Cavill excited fans when he teased his potential involvement in a Mass Effect TV adaptation. The actor posted an Instagram photo of himself with what appeared to be a script relating to the Mass Effect franchise

Now, in an interview with GamesRadar+, Cavill has openly spoken about the prospect of starring in an TV adaptation of Mass Effect. Cavill shared his love for Mass Effect series, saying they were “[b]rilliant games." The actor also revealed that he would love to star in a live action adaptation, but had some caveats, including how the creators would "execute" their vision. Check out Cavill’s full comments below:

"Very much so, yeah, all depending on how they’re executing it. The world of adaptation can be heavy or light. When I like a product, I prefer the adaptation to be less changed from the source, so it all depends… I think it’s found a home, hasn’t it? If [the series] finds a home, I would love to have a conversation ... I did not play [the most recent Mass Effect game] Andromeda – I had a go at it, but ended up being very busy. But [The Mass Effect Trilogy]? Yeah. Loved it. Brilliant games. It would make such a magnificent series of movies or TV shows."

Henry Cavill Would Love To Discuss Mass Effect TV Show

Cavill’s comments will no doubt be very exciting for fans of the Mass Effect games. The sci-fi RPG has been rumoured to be lined-up for a TV adaptation for a while now, and with Cavill willing to get involved, that prospect has become more likely than ever. Cavill’s success with The Witcher provides a general blueprint for video game adaptations to follow and has proved a hit with loyalists of both the original Witcher novels and games. Given that, gamers and Cavill fans alike will be eager to hear more news as these potential talks kick off.

Mass Effect won't be the only video game adaptation to hit screens in the wake of The Witcher’s successes. HBO’s adaptation of the popular post-apocalyptic zombie game, The Last of Us, is expected to come to TV screens at some point in 2022, with Pedro Pascal as leading man Joel. It's clear that the genre is taking off, given that it already has a guaranteed audience in the countless players of the original games. And while The Witcher and Mass Effect couldn't be more different in plot, genre and character, Cavill has already proved talented enough to take on multiple major franchises and make each character his own, and would be a strong choice for any Mass Effect role.
