Henry Cavill has shared a cryptic photo possibly teasing a Mass Effect project. The science fiction franchise is one of the most popular currently, having begun in 2007 with the first video game. The original trilogy follows Commander Shepard, a space navy solider, in his quest to save the galaxy from the Reapers, a group of mechanical beings. Essentially since the franchise began, players have been clamoring for a live-action Mass Effect movie, with one in development for over a decade at this point. Unfortunately, it hasn't come to fruition yet.

Meanwhile, Cavill has become known for starring in franchises with devoted fan bases. He's the DC Extended Universe's current Superman, having played the role in Man of SteelBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League. He'll next appear as the character in the Justice League Snyder Cut, out in March. Cavill's also the star of Netflix's The Witcher, which is a popular video game series as well.

Now, Cavill has possibly teased his involvement in another franchise project. Posting on Instagram, he shared a photo of himself reading some papers. Some at GamePressure (via shinobi602) used a Focus Magic program to pick out the words "Cerberus," "Reaper," "Geth," and "Tali'Zorah," all associated with the Mass Effect franchise. Check out Cavill's post below:

Though the idea of Cavill's involvement in a potential Mass Effect project is exciting, it's also worth noting his post could be linked to the upcoming Legendary Edition compilation release. Cavill could have been recruited for a trailer or something similar. However, if he is in fact teasing a live-action Mass Effect movie, it would be a long time coming for those who enjoy the franchise.

It's also worth noting Cavill would be a great choice to help bring Mass Effect to a wider audience. He has experience in beloved franchises playing iconic characters, which would be important for a Mass Effect movie. This is also the right time for that sort of project. Video game movies like Uncharted are on the way, with others finding success in the past. Though it's often difficult to get a video game adaptation to the big screen, filmmakers have had more success with it of late. This could be good news for a Mass Effect movie. Cavill's post is intentionally cryptic, but hopefully he'll reveal more about the potential Mass Effect project soon, even just through more clues.
