Game of Thrones fans are debating which character Henry Cavill play could in House of the Dragon season 2 or beyond. The British actor is best known for his portrayal of Superman in the DC Extended Universe, debuting in 2013's Man of Steel and, after a period of uncertainty, recently returning for a post-credits cameo in Black Adam. Cavill is also known as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's fantasy series The Witcher and will be seen next in the Netflix film Enola Holmes 2 reprising his role as Sherlock Holmes.

The Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, concluded season 1 earlier this week with the episode titled "The Black Queen," which set the stage for the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. With the full-scale conflict set to kick off in earnest in season 2, the show will drastically expand its scope by visiting various new locations and casting new characters. There are a few big names rumored to join House of the Dragon season 2, including Cavill. However, there is no obvious answer as to who the star might play.

Now, Game of Thrones fans have taken this question and run with it on social media, debating which character Cavill could play in House of the Dragon season 2 or even beyond. Some of the most popular answers include Aegon the Conqueror and Cregan Stark. Some fans also think Cavill would make a great young Robert Baratheon, if there is ever an adaptation of Robert's Rebellion.

Could Cavill Appear In House of the Dragon Season 2?

While the prospect is exciting, it seems unlikely that Cavill will appear in House of the Dragon season 2 given his schedule is occupied with The Witcher, the Enola Holmes and potential Argylle franchises, Man of Steel 2, and other independent projects he decides to take on. In addition, both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon have mostly opted for and has had a lot of success with casting relatively unknown actors. Regardless of whether Cavill joining House of the Dragon is plausible, that shouldn't stop fans from engaging in the entertaining debate.

If Cavill would hypothetically appear in House of the Dragon season 2, he would most likely play the character of Cregan Stark, given that the events of the season 1 finale set up his appearance - though there is some concern he is too old for the role. The more popular choice for Cavill seems to be Aegon the Conqueror, who lived about a hundred years before the events of House of the Dragon, meaning his potential appearance would come via flashback. However, there is a possibility that once the show is finished chronicling the Dance of the Dragons (which should take about four seasons), House of the Dragon could explore a different action-packed era, such as Aegon's conquest of Westeros and his unifying of the Seven Kingdoms. If House of the Dragon decides to go this route in later seasons, Aegon the Conqueror would be a perfect role for Cavill to undertake.
