Musician and rapper Megan Thee Stallion has revealed her 2021 Halloween outfit, posting images of her in costume as Pinhead from Hellraiser onto social media. The 26-year-old Texan rapper, born Megan Jovon Ruth Pete first rose to fame on social media platforms, including Instagram, where videos of her free-styling over popular songs frequently went viral. Megan rose to prominence in recent years when she featured alongside Cardi B on the number 1 hit song "WAP" in 2020. A rollercoaster debut in the music industry saw her win 3 Grammy Awards earlier this year, including Best New Artist.

Hellraiser, directed by horror novel writer Clive Barker, was released in theaters in 1987 and became an iconic horror movie of the late '80s. Its lead villain, Pinhead (played by Doug Bradley), is regarded by fans as a staple of horror-cinema alongside slasher killers like Freddy Kruger, Jason Vorhees and Michael Myers. Hellraiser introduces The Cenobites, led by Pinhead, who are summoned by a puzzle box. The sadistic, supernatural creatures travel extra-dimensionally in search of pain and suffering, which to them is pleasure, and pursue the recently resurrected Frank and his family after he uses the box. Hellraiser is due to return in 2022, with a rebooted version of the film directed by The Ritual’s David Bruckner. In May, the film was picked up by Hulu and will be released exclusively on the streaming platform. Original franchise creator, Barker, is returning as a producer on the project, which is set to be a loose remake of the 1987 original. Earlier in October, it was revealed that Sense8 star, Jamie Clayton, would be playing the new Pinhead, the first female variation of the horror icon.

In an Instagram post, Megan Thee Stallion showcased herself, dressed as Pinhead, with the hashtag “#hottieween.” In a black, leather one-piece costume, Megan’s makeup gives her the pale and ghostly appearance of the horror baddie, complete with spiky needles exuding from her bald head. In an intentionally sexier version of the original attire, Megan poses in an authentically atmospheric location; obscured by smoke and surrounded by chains in an image that looks straight out of the original 1987 movie. Adding a promotional still from the film for comparison's sake, the caption contains a quote from the film; “Pain has a face. Allow me to show you. Gentlemen I am pain.”  Check out the original post below:

Megan’s outfit plays on the sadomasochistic style of the Cenobites, with the original film having several undertones of the S&M lifestyle. This is a perfect match for the vocal rapper, who has held nothing back in her sexualized lyrics on songs like "WAP." Interestingly, Megan’s feminine version of Pinhead comes days after it was announced that a new female version of the villain will appear in the upcoming horror reboot.

Fans of both Hellraiser and Megan Thee Stallion will not only be amused by her homage to the franchise, but may also wonder if the superstar has plans to appear in the film, perhaps as a fellow Cenobite. While unlikely, the rapper’s costume is no doubt an impressive, high-effort recreation. Megan puts her mark out early as one of several celebrities who will no doubt share their seasonal, spooky pop culture outfits this Halloween.
