Hellraiser: Judgment features a new Pinhead actor with an altered wardrobe, one that features a subtle but clear tribute to Doctor Strange. After 2011's Hellraiser: Revelations, often considered the bottom of the barrel when it comes to direct to video horror sequels, the franchise Clive Barker created was in desperate need of a cinematic rebirth. It looks to be getting that soon from Spyglass Entertainment, in the form of a reboot being written by The Dark Knight's David S. Goyer.

However, between the tragedy of Hellraiser: Revelations and the hopeful triumph of the Hellraiser reboot came another low-budget sequel, 2018's Hellraiser: Judgment. Well, 2018's in the sense that it released in 2018, after sitting on The Weinstein Company's shelf for several years. The good news is that Judgment is much better than Revelations. The bad news is that it's still an extremely flawed outing. If nothing else, at least new Pinhead actor Paul T. Taylor is a lot better than the the first guy to try and replace horror icon Doug Bradley.

Anyway, Hellraiser: Judgment boasts a few cool ideas, and writer/director Gary J. Tunnicliffe is clearly a devoted fan of the franchise. It turns out though that his fandom extends beyond Hellraiser, leading to a fun in-movie nod to Marvel's Sorcerer Supreme.

Hellraiser: Judgment Contains A Doctor Strange Easter Egg

Hellraiser Judgment - Paul T Taylor as Pinhead

While there's no official still from Hellraiser: Judgment that really shows it off well, over the course of the movie, eagle-eyed viewers that also happen to love Marvel will see the Doctor Strange Easter egg in question. On the top right of Pinhead's newly redesigned chest plate, sometimes obscured by his outer black robe, is a symbol very close to but not an exact duplicate of the Eye of Agamotto. The Eye of Agamotto is a mystical item housed within the amulet Doctor Strange wears around his neck, which also of course contains the Time Stone.

One assumes that Hellraiser: Judgment might've opted to use a close but not exact recreation in order to stave off any lawsuits from Marvel or Disney. Still, it's similar enough to be recognizable by those well-versed in Doctor Strange and Marvel lore. While Tunnicliffe has yet to confirm this, it's also possible that the Eye of Agamotto's use is a shout out to Doctor Strange movie director Scott Derrickson, who began his career directing 2000's Hellraiser: Inferno. Whether its presence is meant to signify that Pinhead is indeed Hell's Sorcerer Supreme is anyone's guess, although one wouldn't want to be on the other side of a bargain initiated by the infamous Cenobite.
