Fans are about to see how Dark Horse's number one paranormal investigator, Hellboy, became the man he is today with a new miniseries that will shine a light on his more precocious years. Dark Horse has announced Young Hellboy: Assault on Castle Death, a miniseries that will explore the titular character's early years after arriving on Earth. The book is a chance for Hellboy fans to see a mostly unseen point in his history, and find out how his formative years affected the notorious B.P.R.D agent.

When it comes to superhero origins, Hellboy arguably has one of the most intense. Born as Anung Un Rama to Azzael, the Archduke of Hell, and Sarah Hughes, a human witch, the young half-demon lived in Hell before he was brought to Earth. Summoned by Rasputin near the end of World War II, the creature was taken in by Allied forces and adopted by Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, Director of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense. Thanks to his demon lineage, it wasn't long before Hellboy grew into a full-fledged adult. But that doesn't mean there weren't some awkward years for the future demon slayer

The new series promises action, intrigue and a possible cameo by Hellboy's hero, Lobster Johnson.

The Young Hellboy stories are a fantastic opportunity for fans to gain some insight into a crucial point in Hellboy's history. Despite the name, Hellboy's stories have always focused on him as an adult, leaving his short childhood a bit of a mystery. But being raised by Professor Bruttenholm and the B.P.R.D. obviously, put Hellboy in contact with some heavy supernatural things at a tender age. The newest miniseries could shine a light on the events that helped shape Hellboy into the gruff, stoic adventurer fans know and love.
