Hellboy Movie Poster Reveals New Look at David Harbour In Costume

David Harbour's Hellboy is "Legendary AF" in the first official poster for the Hellboy comic book movie reboot. This is the third live-action Hellboy film released overall, but the first starring Harbour (known for playing Chief Hopper on Stranger Things) and directed by Neil Marshall (The Descent), following the pair of Guillermo del Toro-helmed Hellboy films (starring Ron Perlman as Big Red) that were released back in the 2000s.

Hellboy (2019) is also the first live-action Hellboy adventure to be written by the titular character's creator, Mike Mignola. The film pits Big Red against Resident Evil's Milla Jovovich as the Blood Queen (an ancient sorceress who's hungry for revenge against humanity) and, according to Mignola, hews closer to his original comic book storylines that del Toro's movies ever did. Mignola will even join the Hellboy reboot's cast and crew for the film's panel at New York Comic Con 2018 later this week.

EW has now exclusively unveiled the Hellboy reboot's poster and, as you can see below, it has quite the... memorable tagline. The poster includes the film's newly-set April 2019 release date, which Summit Entertainment only announced this past week. Even with the delay, however, it's expected that Mignola and the rest of the Hellboy gang will show off some actual footage from the film during its NYCC panel (with an official trailer dropping online at a later date).

Unlike the previously-released first look photo of Harbour as Hellboy, Big Red's horns haven't been shaved down to stumps in this poster. That's noteworthy since, as the character's fans know all too well, Hellboy trims his horns as a way of keeping his demonic nature in check and, thus, rejecting his destiny as the beast fated to bring about the apocalypse on earth. Of course, given how powerful the Blood Queen is, Big Red might have to get down a bit with his bad demon side in the film, if he's to have any chance of defeating her.

The Hellboy reboot likewise promises to be darker and grittier than del Toro's films were, with Mignola and Marshall's creative vision described as being an R-rated supernatural horror monster movie. That's not to say there won't be any humor, of course, as the Hellboy comics have long balanced their spookier elements with comedy involving things like Hellboy's habit of drinking with skeletons or punching out Nazis for fun. Harbour has shown a similar talent for combining scares, thrills and character-based jokes with his work on Stranger Things and has even teased that Hellboy might do a little singing in the reboot.

Whether that singing involves beer and Barry Manilow (a la Hellboy II: The Golden Army), that's another matter.
