Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, the sequel to Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, has received a new tease thanks to an image from Senua actor Melina Juergens, in which she dons full makeup. Developer Ninja Theory originally announced the sequel in late 2019 during The Game Awards. Since then, the studio has slowly trickled out hints and glimpses of what's next in Senua's harrowing journey.

A dark fantasy game, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice offered far more than an action-packed adventure for players to navigate. Ninja Theory also explored the character's mental illness, employing clever audio design to craft a truly haunting and unsettling experience. The little that's been shown of Hellblade II, thus far, indicates the team once more intends to take players on a ride quite unlike any other.

Earlier today, Senua actor Melina Juergens shared a new photo of herself on Twitter in full makeup. A brief caption accompanies the picture; it reads: "For every battle won, a greater battle takes its place." Tom McInerney is the makeup artist responsible for the look, which incorporates markings that weren't seen on Senua's visage in the franchise's first entry. This seems to suggest the sequel's titular character will is getting a new look that fans have yet to see in full.

This is little more than a small tease, of course, but it's a tease nonetheless. And it's bound to serve as one that keeps fans speculating for a while. The last major update from Ninja Theory about Senua's Saga: Hellblade II made the rounds last summer, with a few glimpses at the real world locales that inspire the game's setting.

When fans can expect to learn more about the eagerly-anticipated sequel currently remains to be seen. Release date details are similarly under wraps at the time of writing. And, interestingly, Hellblade II does not feature in the massive list of Xbox-exclusive games slated to arrive this year. Whether or not this means that Senua won't embark on her next journey until 2022 is anyone's guess at this point. Microsoft has confirmed that whenever the title does finally arrive, it will launch on PC and Xbox Series X|S. Because Microsoft acquired Ninja Theory a few years ago, this may be a project that doesn't come to PlayStation platforms.
