Spoiler Warning: The following article contains spoilers for season 1 of Heartstopper.

The only thing audiences don't like about British LGBTQ+ teen drama Heartstopper is that it hasn't yet been renewed for a second season. Debuting on Netflix just last week, the show, based on Alice Oseman's best-selling graphic novel of the same name, has become a hit with critics and audiences. Particular praise has gone to its wholesomeness and positive outlook on queer life and the performances of its charming cast.

If Netflix does make fans' dreams come true and orders more episodes, readers of the graphic novel already know what's coming. But those who have only watched the show also have a few ideas of what stories they'd like to see when the show returns for season 2.

The Paris Trip

Fans of the Heartstopper graphic novel know that the gang takes a trip to Paris, where several meaningful things happen. Darcy gets everyone drunk, Tao and Elle talk earnestly about their relationship, and Nick discovers something about Charlie that concerns him.

The trip is crucial for the three couples, so fans are obviously excited to see it brought to life. Heartstopper is a teen drama that deserves a second season for numerous reasons, chief among them the chance to see these winsome characters in the City of Love.

More Isaac!

The Heartstopper graphic novel doesn't include Isaac, and the character is a creation specifically for the show. This detail explains why he's detached from the main storyline, save for a few crucial interactions.

However, Isaac became a fan-favorite scene-stealer despite his limited screen time, and viewers want to see him have more to do. Isaac is much friendlier to Nick than Tao, so there's potential for some great interactions. It'll also be interesting to see how Isaac reacts to the potential Elle and Tao romance, especially because he's the only one who doesn't seem to know about it.

Elle & Tao Getting Together

Elle and Tao's will-they-won't-they dynamic is a highlight of season 1. Elle figures out her attraction to him early in the season, but Tao doesn't realize his feelings for her until the end. They share a tense moment in the final episode, but whether they actually get together is one of the questions Heartstopper leaves for season 1.

Elle and Tao have huge potential as a couple, and fans are already rooting for them. Teen shows like to draw out fledgling romances, but there's a real chance that these two will become a couple in season 2.

Imogen & Nick's Friendship

Nick struggles with his friend group throughout season 1. Most of them are bullies or onlookers who don't do anything to stop the bad behavior around them. Nick slowly realizes he doesn't like these people and hints that he might stop hanging out with them.

However, Imogen, who initially has a crush on Nick, proves herself a real friend by understanding his reasons for not wanting to date, and she's happy for him and Charlie. If Nick does indeed separate from his friend group, he'll need a new friend outside of Charlie's group, and Imogen is a great option. They have a cute dynamic, and Nick could use a genuine friend.

Insights Into Darcy & Tara's Relationship

Other than Nick and Charlie, Darcy and Tara's romance is the most prominent in season 1. They are already together when the show starts but come out as a couple in episode three. They deal with the unwanted attention their relationship attracts but reaffirm their love for each other.

Season 1 doesn't show anything about their home lives or friendships outside Elle, so season 2 should spend more time developing Darcy and Tara's individual stories.

Nick & Charlie Spending Time With Each Other's Families

One of the reasons Hearstopper is the best LGBTQ+ show right now is its portrayal of supporting parental figures. Nick's mother, Sarah, is warm and loving and gets a significant amount of screentime during season 1, but only with him. She knows Charlie and refers to him as a "lovely boy," but fans don't see any scenes between them, something that season 2 needs to remedy. In the graphic novel, Nick also has an older brother, so that should come into play.

Similarly, Charlie's parents are very supportive of their son. His father, in particular, shows great concern every time Charlie goes out, considering the heavy bullying he endured the previous year. Like Sarah, Charlie's parents are also aware of Nick, but only as their son's friend. Season 2 should show Nick and Charlie spending time with their families, especially as their relationship becomes more serious.

Nick Getting To Know Tori

Charlie's sister, Tori, is a highlight of season 1. Sweet and eager to support and encourage her brother, Tori is a scene-stealer whose lines are both hilarious and insightful. Tori knows Nick, but they don't share any scenes in season 1.

Season 2 should fix this by showing them bonding and getting to know each other. Tori is a crucial part of Charlie's life, and Nick would surely want to get to know her better. There's a ton of potential in their relationship, so hopefully, the show will take the chance to explore it.

More Sarah!

The mighty Olivia Colman plays Nick's mother, Sarah, a great character who makes a huge impression on the show despite her limited screen time. Colman, known for her great movies, brings a sense of gravitas and humor to everything she does, and her presence in Heartstopper makes all the difference.

Season 2 should make full use of her considerable talents. She doesn't need to become overwhelmingly important in the plot, but Colman is an actress that can say plenty in only a few words. Season 2 of Heartstopper could only benefit from more of her.

Nick & Charlie's Serious Relationship

Season 2 will find Charlie and Nick in a committed relationship, and it should take the necessary time to explore it. As previously mentioned, Nick will learn more about Charlie's struggles, and their romance will surely bring out the worst in Harry and Ben, taking things into more mature and complex territory.

This change will serve to strengthen their bond but might also challenge it. Still, Charlie and Nick's love should be strong enough to face these obstacles. Whatever comes next, fans can't wait to see what's next for these characters, so hopefully, Netflix won't take long to renew Heartstopper for a much-deserved season 2.
