Heartstopper season 2 has officially wrapped with a charming behind-the-scenes image. The lighthearted series, based on Alice Oseman's webcomic and graphic novels of the same name, released on Netflix in April of this year. Starring Joe Locke, Kit Connor, Yasmin Finney, William Gao, and Olivia Colman, the show depicts LGBTQ+ relationships in high school in a positive light, featuring a diverse cast of characters that offer representation to many groups often underrepresented on-screen. Heartstopper was a hit with both audiences and critics upon its release, and Netflix was quick to renew the series for two more seasons a month after its debut.

Heartstopper season 2 kicked off filming in September, bringing in several new cast members including Thibault de Montalembert as Nick's father. Now, the official Heartstopper account has posted a behind-the-scenes image celebrating the filming wrap for season 2 via Instagram, less than three months after they started shooting. The image depicts Oseman's drawings of Nick and Charlie beside their real-life counterparts, Connor and Locke. In addition, the French phrase "à bientôt," meaning "see you soon," is present in the caption, possibly offering a different hint about the upcoming season. See the post below:

The sweet image confirms that Heartstopper season 2 will retain the same warm, pastel palette and tone of season 1, which was expected since the upcoming season will continue to adapt the next installments in Oseman's Heartstopper graphic novel. In particular, the use of French in the caption may confirm that the graphic novel storyline revolving around a class trip to Paris will be a major part of Heartstopper season 2. Since Nick's father Stéphane (de Montalembert) lives in France, perhaps Nick will take the opportunity to see and come out to his dad with Charlie's support. Nick's family is sure to play a major role in season 2 since Colman is confirmed to return as Nick's mother and Jack Barton was cast as his brother David.

Outside main couple Charlie and Nick, Heartstopper season 2 will explore many of the show's other relationships, with Elle getting two new friends, Naomi (Bel Priestley) and Felix (Ash Self), and likely exploring her relationship with Tao (Gao) in more depth. Also confirmed to return are Kizzy Edgell and Corinna Brown, who play the loving and playful couple Darcy (Edgell) and Tara (Brown) in the show. Nima Taleghani was also cast as Mr. Farouk, who strikes up a relationship with fan-favorite teacher Mr. Ajayi (Fisayo Akinade), in season 2, so it's safe to say that sparks will be flying in the new season.

What Is Heartstopper Season 2's Release Date?

As for the timeline for Heartstopper season 2's release, Netflix could be aiming to celebrate Heartstopper's one-year streaming anniversary by dropping season 2 in April. Alternately, the streaming service could elect to release the season around Valentine's Day given the show's focus on love and the potential romantic Parisian setting of season 2, though that date could result in a rushed timeline. The most realistic timeline for Heartstopper season 2's release would be spring 2023, possibly April or May, so fans of the series won't have to wait much longer to revisit Nick and Charlie's wholesome romance.
