Joe Locke and Kit Connor from Heartstopper have recreated one of the show's most adorable moments on social media. The British LGBTQ+ teen romance series, which was created by Alice Oseman and based on her graphic novel of the same name, premiered on Netflix on April 22, 2022. The series revolves around the burgeoning romance between bullied gay teen Charlie Spring (Locke) and his rugby lad classmate Nick Nelson (Connor). Charlie initially presumes Nick to be straight, though he quickly learns that things might not be so cut and dry. The show proved to be somewhat of an overnight success, to the point that Netflix made the decision to renew Heartstopper for seasons 2 and 3 at the same time, in an extremely rare move for the streaming platform.

One of the most iconic scenes in Heartstopper involves Nick showing up at Charlie's doorstep, soaked in the pouring rain, to apologize to him for how he treated Charlie after their first kiss. When Charlie asks if he forgot to put on a coat, the still-dripping Nick admits that he didn't check the weather before running over. Charlie lovingly calls him an idiot, and the roles are reversed when Charlie runs out into the rain to give Nick an umbrella, under which they have their second kiss.

Hilariously, that classic Nick and Charlie Heartstopper moment has just played out in real life over social media. When a fan tagged Kit Connor asking the reason his pictures from a recent trip to Los Angeles showed his arms covered in Band-Aids, Connor quote tweeted the question, answering "there was a swan..." This prompted Locke to reply to his Tweet, saying "Idiot <3" in the exact way that his character would have responded to Nick ending up in a similar situation, which is entirely possible. Part of the reason the show became such a success was the onscreen chemistry between Locke and Connor. Their dynamic created an irresistible pull that allowed the show to indulge in spending time with the two characters alone together, letting the audience in on their bond. The fact that the personalities of their characters are able to shine through in their offscreen dynamic is further proof that their casting is an integral part of the series.

Hopefully, they can continue this dynamic in the two seasons that have already been ordered. The future of Heartstopper is certainly looking bright. Should the show continue on, and perhaps even overtake the timeline of the graphic novels, fans should rest easy that Locke and Connor seem to be keeping the chemistry going.
