HBO Max has cancelled its Head of the Class reboot after just one season. The series made its debut on November 4 and received an average reception from viewers. Developed by showrunners Amy Pocha and Seth Cohen, the show was based on its 1986 predecessor, created by Rich Eustis and Michael Elias. The original, which aired on ABC until 1991, followed a group of gifted high school students whose new teacher encourages them to worry less about grades and instead focus on enjoying their youth and experiencing life to the fullest.

Now, according to a report by Deadline, HBO Max has opted to cancel the reboot after just one season. Thanking the cast and crew behind the series, a spokesperson for the platform confirmed that the show would not receive a second season. The decision reportedly marks only the second occasion that HBO Max has cancelled an original scripted series, following in the wake of Generation.

Though the original Head of the Class ran for almost five years and boasted approximately 114 episodes, the reboot enjoyed just a 10-episode order before its cancellation.
