HBO released a trailer for Run, a new series executive-produced by Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Fleabagwhich was based on her one-woman show, won four Emmy awards, including three for Waller-Bridge (who also starred in the series) and landed the creator a $20 million deal with Amazon. Prior to that, the actress/writer created the British comedy Crashing and was the showrunner for the pulse-pounding first season of the Hulu hit Killing Eve.

Now, Waller-Bridge will serve as the executive producer for Run, which was created by Fleabag (and Killing Eve) collaborator Vicky Jones. Run tells the story of Billy and Ruby, ex-lovers who dated in college, as they reconnect after 17 years apart. The twist? They made a pact years ago that if either of them ever needed to drop everything and get out of town they could text the other person the word "RUN," and if the other person replied with the same word they would meet up and road-trip across the USA.

HBO released the first trailer for the series on YouTube, which sets up the initial premise, teases a few secrets the characters are concealing from each other, and, as promised, features a fair amount of running. From the looks of things, it seems like Ruby may have left a family behind, and Billy might be in some kind of trouble. Certainly an intriguing setup for what HBO is billing as a "comedy thriller." Take a look at the trailer:

Jones will write and executive-produce the series with Waller-Bridge. They're joined by executive producers Oliver Roskill, Emily Leo, and Kate Dennis, who also directed the pilot. Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux in the most recent Star Wars trilogy) plays Billy, Merritt Wever stars as Ruby, and Waller-Bridge will guest star as a woman they meet along the way. Mad Men actor Rich Sommer is listed as Ruby's husband, Laurence, Tamara Podemski plays a police detective named Babe Cloud, and Archie Panjabi rounds out the cast as Fiona. Run premieres on HBO on Sunday, April 12, 2020.
