HBO Max is kicking off January 2023 with highly anticipated TV premieres and new movies’ streaming debuts. Closing out the holiday season, HBO Max’s new movie additions in December 2022 included the premiere of the original movie A Hollywood Christmas and the streaming releases of Amsterdam and Black Adam. On the TV front, December marked included the premieres of Doom Patrol season 4, His Dark Materials season 3, and Gossip Girl season 2. One of the biggest releases for HBO Max in December 2022 was The White Lotus season 2 finale, which set record-high ratings for the series at 4.1 million viewers (via Variety).
After much anticipation, HBO’s The Last of Us, the Pedro Pascal-starring adaptation of the same-titled video game, will premiere its first season January 15 on HBO Max. The January 2023 additions to HBO Max’s TV series catalog also include the premiere of the Scooby-Doo spinoff Velma and Jason Momoa’s reality adventure competition The Climb on January 12. The HBO Max streaming debut of the 2022 dark comedy horror movie The Menu will be on January 3. HBO Max’s coverage of live sports will also launch this upcoming month, including streaming for soccer games of the U.S. Women’s and Men’s National Teams. In order to make room for all the new titles, many popular movies and TV shows will be leaving HBO Max by the end of January 2023. HBO Max’s collection of The Bachelor seasons will be exiting the streaming service on January 3, with January 6 being the date that Sesame Street's Christmas specials leave HBO Max. January 31 is the last chance for HBO Max subscribers to stream titles like Chinatown, the Fantastic Beasts movies, the John Wick franchise, Jurassic Park, and West Side Story (1961).
As the new year begins, HBO Max subscribers have much to look forward to in the upcoming months. Arriving on HBO Max in 2023 are anticipated TV shows like White House Plumbers, Succession season 4, The Idol, and Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12. Following their theatrical premieres later in 2023, HBO Max subscribers can also look forward to streaming big movies like Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Greta Gerwig's Barbie, The Nun 2, and potentially Dune: Part Two.
