Though a relatively new streaming platform, HBO Max is quickly establishing itself as a must-have service with tons of great content. But what has fans most excited is all the DC content that will be coming to HBO Max in the near future. From television shows to movies, the platform is betting on its superhero universe in a big way.

With Wonder Woman 1984's controversial simultaneous release in theaters and HBO Max, it marked the first of many DC projects to come. Some will further explore the heroes already established in the movies while others will offer exciting new characters and stories to explore.

Zack Snyder's Justice League

Anyone who has been paying attention to the DCEU at all probably doesn't need to be told a new version of Justice League is on its way. Following the disappointing reaction to the theatrical cut and the outcrying of support from fans, Warner Bros. has given Zack Snyder an unprecedented opportunity to recreate his original vision for the movie.

Interestingly, Zack Snyder's Justice League will debut on HBO Max as a four-part series. Snyder has promised plenty of new footage, some of which was shot recently, as well as some exciting new characters being featured.

The Suicide Squad

Like Justice League, DC's first attempt at Suicide Squad was a disappointment for many. However, not willing to give up on the franchise, they brought James Gunn on to retool the property for the upcoming ensemble action-adventure, The Suicide Squad.

While the movie will feature some members of the original cast, there will also be plenty of new and bizarre characters that seem to fit quite well with Gunn's off-the-wall sense of humor. Gunn has also confirmed the movie will be R-rated and, like Wonder Woman 1984, is set for a theatrical and streaming release on August 6, 2021.

DC Super Hero High

The HBO Max platform is also giving the opportunity to tell some unexpected DC adventures like the upcoming comedy series, DC Super Hero High. This half-hour comedy is set in a boarding school where the various students deal with the typical adolescent problems, unaware that they are destined to become superheroes.

The series is being produced by Elizabeth Banks and will offer a new side of the DC universe fans have not yet seen. If the MCU can do the whole sitcom thing with WandaVision, why not DC as well?

Aquaman: King Of Atlantis

While James Wan is busy working on the anticipated sequel to Aquaman, he will also be producing a three-part animated series for HBO Max that will take a closer look at the new King of Atlantis.

Aquaman: King of Atlantis is said to set following the events of the first movie and will explore Arthur Curry's new role as king and the many challenges he faces. From the sound of it, this animated series will also serve as a bridge between the first movie and the upcoming sequel.

Strange Adventures

There is still a lot unknown about the upcoming series Strange Adventures other than the fact that it is an hour-long drama that will explore the connection between superheroes and mortals with the character of Adam Strange as a central figure. Peacemaker

It seems as though Warner Bros. is very pleased with what they have seen from James Gunn's The Suicide Squad as they reportedly gave him the option to make a series based on any one of the characters from the new movie.

Gunn chose John Cena's character Peacemaker who is described as a warper version of Captain America who can go to disturbing extremes to fight injustice. Cena will return for the series, along with some other characters from the upcoming movie, with Gunn writing all eight episodes.

DMZ

Ava Duvernay & HBO DMZ Adaptation

The future of the DC universe seems to be attracting some very prominent filmmakers, including the highly acclaimed Ava Duvernay. She will serve as executive producer and director of the pilot episode of the miniseries DMZ.

The series is based on the comic book of the same name which imagines a future in which a second American Civil War has turned Manhattan into a demilitarized zone between the two warring forces. The series will star Rosario Dawson and Benjamin Bratt.

Green Lantern

The series will reportedly explore the dark past of Gotham City and its corruption in all corners of the city. As of yet, there is no word on characters from the DC universe that might appear in the show.

Justice League Dark

As Snyder is getting the chance to show his take on Justice League, there is another group of superheroes that will soon be banding together on HBO Max. Justice League Dark is a team from the comics that includes the likes of John Constantine, Deadman, and Swamp Thing who fight against supernatural threats.

This is a property that fans have been waiting to see for a long time and will now the dream seems to be coming true in the form of a live-action series. To make the series even more enticing, it will be produced by J.J. Abrams.
