HBO Max is gifting its subscribers this holiday season with a few major releases in December 2020. As always, the streamer will also be adding several dozen classic titles to the library in addition to premieres of more Max Originals. Even though December is traditionally a big month for a box office, nationwide theater closures due to the ongoing coronavirus are keeping movie and TV fans shifting focus to streaming services and VOD. HBO Max will look to attract existing and new subscribers with the end of year release schedule.

November was a big month for HBO Max in terms of contact. The streamer bolstered all aspects of its ever-growing catalog with additions of premium movies, Max Originals, and popular streaming titles. Through HBO, the service made recently released titles like Underwater and The Call of the Wild available. The penultimate month also saw the premiere of the brand-new Kaley Cuoco-led series The Flight Attendant, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reunion special, and the action-comedy Superintelligence starring Melissa McCarthy.

December will look to build off the previous month's momentum with a few more movie premieres courtesy of HBO debuts. The list includes The Photograph starring Issa Rae and Lakeith Stanfield (December 5), the Max Original titled Let Them All Talk featuring Meryl Streep (December 10), and Wendy, the re-imagining of Peter Pan (December 19). The biggest attention-grabber, however, will be the Christmas day release of Wonder Woman 1984. The DCEU installment was delayed a few times, but Warner Bros. is officially moving forward with the debut with a simultaneous theater release. The movie Gal Gadot-led sequel will only be streaming on HBO Max for one month. Also noteworthy, is the premiere of a new Euphoria holiday episode (December 6), which is available on HBO and its streamer.

In addition to the slew of new additions throughout the month of December, HBO Max will see the departure of some notable titles. Popular franchises like Austin Powers, Lara Croft Tomb Raider, and a few DC titles will be heading out. Recent titles like The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, La La Land, and Lucy In The Sky will also be disappearing. The list of departing titles isn't too overwhelming this time around, which is a good sign. Look for HBO Max to keep building as it heads into the new year. Not only will the back catalog grow, but the streamer has even bigger plans for its original content.
