Hazbin Hotel unveils a new design for Vaggie, Charlie's girlfriend. In 2019, Vivienne Medrano (Vivziepop) posted a pilot for the series on YouTube, and in 2020, A24 picked it up. Though news about the show has been slow, the company has been ramping up its marketing since the beginning of the year, teasing new designs for various characters.

Hazbin Hotel follows Charlie, the princess of Hell, as she seeks a solution to the realm's overpopulation problem. Instead of angels coming down for a yearly purge in which they kill demons, Charlie wants to rehabilitate them and send them to Heaven instead. Though most of Hell's inhabitants aren't on board with Charlie's plan, her girlfriend, Vaggie, steadfastly supports her. Vaggie acts as the manager of the rehab hotel.

Yesterday, Hazbin Hotel's official Twitter account posted an image of Vaggie's new design. The caption tells the show's followers to "make way" for her as she gives a fearsome scowl, hanging from a chandelier. She rocks a new top, a pointier bow in her hair, and more pronounced facial features. Check out the post below:

The original Hazbin Hotel pilot was crowdfunded through Patreon and put together by freelance animators. Though the overall quality of the animation was high, it's not surprising that A24 has elected to polish the characters. For the redesigns revealed so far, the changes haven't been drastic; instead, the characters are more streamlined, allowing their personalities to shine through more. Vaggie's new design is a perfect example of that: the lines of her hair and bow are sharper and her eye shape is more defined, giving her a more intimidating, no-nonsense look that's befitting of her position as a manager tasked with keeping unruly residents in line.

While Hazbin Hotel quickly gained a cult following after its debut, it also drew some criticism. The show prominently features LGBTQ+ characters and relationships, and Angel Dust, the hotel's first resident, is an unapologetic drug-addicted adult film star who doesn't take the rehabilitation program seriously. While some critics claimed that there was little point to the show's displays of excess, it's impossible to judge the series' overall goals based on just one episode. And, at its core, Hazbin Hotel is about redemption. Vaggie, as the hotel manager, is an important part of that journey, and her redesign hints that A24 is taking her role seriously. If the series follows a similar path,  Hazbin Hotel could be a surprisingly poignant hit.
