The upcoming A24 series Hazbin Hotel has officially been given a 2023 release date window. An adult animated series, Hazbin Hotel began as a YouTube pilot created by Vivienne "VivziePop" Medrano. The pilot was released on YouTube on October 28, 2019, and currently has over 80 million views. The series follows Charlie Morningstar, the demonic princess of Hell, as she opens a hotel to try and redeem sinners to quell Hell's overpopulation crisis. On August 7, 2020, less than a year after the pilot was posted to YouTube, production company A24 picked up Hazbin Hotel with the intent to develop the concept into a long-form television series. In February, Hazbin Hotel began releasing new re-designs of the pilot's characters at the end of every month, showing how they will be adapted for the A24 series. When first released on YouTube, the Hazbin Hotel pilot quickly divided audiences for being a crude, extremely adult animated series. With a major studio like A24 picking up the series, fans were left to wonder if some of the pilot's characteristic raunchiness would be subdued to avoid censorship. However, many Hazbin Hotel fans were reassured by the minimal changes made to the characters' designs, as the hope that much of the show's original content will also remain unchanged - adult content included.Related: How The Simpsons Influenced Every Major Animated Adult Comedy

In a post to Twitter, Hazbin Hotel has unveiled a new poster for the show, with a release date window. The poster depicts a large, demonic key, with a Summer 2023 release window listed beneath it. The post encourages fans to 'check in' at the Hazbin Hotel website, where fans can sign up to receive email updates about the series, as well as a link to a free download of the poster.

What To Expect From A24's Hazbin Hotel Series

While longtime fans of Hazbin Hotel are hoping that the series will very closely resemble Medrano's original pilot, it remains unclear just how much of the show will be unchanged. In December 2021, it was revealed that many of the Hazbin Hotel pilot voice actors were asked not to return for the A24 series, though all of them expressed support for the show moving forward. Conversely, it was announced in March that many of the pilot's animators would be working on the series, ensuring that the much-loved Hazbin Hotel art style stays relatively the same.

Despite Hazbin Hotel having minimal content, only extending across one half-hour-long pilot, one music video, and a few short comics, the series already has an incredibly dedicated fanbase. Medrano is also the creator of Helluva Boss, a Hazbin Hotel spinoff series on YouTube that has just entered its second season. With so much popularity surrounding the project before it even releases, Summer 2023 is sure to be big for A24 and Hazbin Hotel.
