Actor Hayden Christensen is set to reprise the role of Anakin Skywalker in the Disney+ Star Wars spinoff show, Ahsoka. The character of Ahsoka Tano, a female Togruta, was the Padawan learner of Anakin Skywalker, a relationship that was deeply explored in The Clone Wars animated series, which was directed by Dave Filoni. Anakin Skywalker is a Force-gifted human from Tatooine, who was the Padawan learner of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars Prequels, later becoming Darth Vader in the third film of the series, Revenge of the Sith. Christensen played Anakin for both Sith and the second film, Attack of the Clones.

Ahsoka's first live-action appearance was in season two of The Mandalorian, where she was played by actress Rosario Dawson. It was later announced that she would receive her own spinoff show, which would be executive produced by Jon Favreau and written by Dave Filoni. Christensen was recently announced as returning to the role of Darth Vader for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which also has Ewan McGregor returning to star. Now, it appears that Christensen will be playing the Skywalker/Vader role in more than one show.

According to THR, Christensen will play Anakin Skywalker in the Ahsoka series, which takes place five years after the events of Return of the Jedi. As Darth Vader was killed at the end of that film, it's unclear how Anakin would return for the show, but speculation would lead to either as a Force Ghost or in flashbacks. Either way, Christensen is not only back in the Star Wars universe, but appears to be embracing the role as Skywalker/Vader, just as McGregor has for Obi-Wan.

Clone Wars Season 7 Ahoksa and Anakin

Christensen has worked steadily since his days in the Star Wars Prequels, although hasn't quite reached the heights of that massive role again. He starred in the 2008 sci-fi action pic Jumper for director Doug Liman and played a sword-wielding warrior alongside Nicolas Cage in 2014's Outcast. He most recently starred in 2019's The Last Man with Harvey Keitel and provided his voice for Anakin Skywalker in JJ Abrams' The Rise of Skywalker, before his return as Darth Vader (and now Anakin) was announced for Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka.

It was already exciting to have Prequel star Ewan McGregor back for Obi-Wan Kenobi, but having Christensen back as Darth Vader was the icing on the cake. Now, with the actor returning as Anakin for Ahsoka it feels like the candles are being lit on top of that cake. Christensen took some licks for his performance as Anakin over the years, but fans have warmed up to him over the years as he's made multiple convention appearances and proven to be a good sport about the criticisms, as well as embracing the work he's done. Now, with his return to both the dark and light side of The Force, the actor may be able to explore the character in ways fans haven't seen before and under the guidance of creators other than George Lucas. The return of Christensen (and McGregor for that matter) shows that not only can the original trilogy stars have a future with the franchise, but the prequel stars can, too.
