Warning: SPOILERS for Hawkeye.

Despite the suspicions surrounding his character throughout the majority of Hawkeye, Jack Duquesne would be a logical choice to fulfill Tony Stark’s role for the Young Avengers. The Young Avengers are a team of primarily teen superheroes in Marvel Comics who all have connections to older members of the Avengers. Throughout Phase 4, the MCU has been slowly introducing members of the team, including Cassie Lang, Billy and Tommy Maximoff, Elijah Bradley, and Kid Loki. While most of these characters have played minor roles in the MCU so far, Kate Bishop, an important member of the Young Avengers, took on a major role, co-starring in Hawkeye alongside Clint Barton. As her story progresses, her relationship with the wealthy Jack Dusquesne may prove integral to funding any future Young Avengers initiative.

At the beginning of Hawkeye, tensions quickly rose between Jack and Kate Bishop when Kate learned that Jack had become engaged to her mother, Eleanor Bishop, without her knowing. These tensions only intensified when Kate believed that Jack was responsible for the death of his uncle, Armand Duquesne III, and involved in underground criminal activity. However, Hawkeye season 1, episode 6, “So This Is Christmas?” proved that this was a red herring, revealing that Eleanor had framed Jack. During the Battle at Rockefeller Center, Jack even used his swordsman skills to help protect Kate from the Tracksuit Mafia. While Jack may not fight directly again, he could still play a major role in the MCU as the future financier of the Young Avengers.

Similar to the original Avengers, the Young Avengers will need a financial backer to become an effective team. Tony Stark performed this role for the Avengers, and one Reddit user pointed out that Jack could do the same for the Young Avengers, even if he could not be a superhero like Iron Man as well. Given that Jack still cared about Kate at the end of Hawkeye, even calling her “sweetie” after Eleanor had had him arrested, he may be willing to support her future heroic efforts. In addition, he is a viable option to fund the Young Avengers due to his wealth and desire to promote justice.

Jack Duquesne holds a sword in Hawkeye

One reason Jack would be an ideal candidate to finance the Young Avengers is simply that he is rich enough to do so. Born into a wealthy family, Jack never had to work on his own. Instead, he focused on social activities and developing his swordsmanship. Due to this, Jack has plenty of extra money to put towards funding a new superhero team.

Additionally, Jack showed a strong desire to support justice during the Hawkeye finale. Despite the danger of the situation, Jack enthusiastically took the opportunity to fight the Tracksuit Mafia, attacking members with his sword. However, Jack’s over-eagerness concerned Kate, and he complained after the battle about getting blood on his tie. To continue to promote justice after Hawkeye without having to fight directly, Jack could finance the Young Avengers, acting as Stark’s replacement. While he may lack the inventive genius that proved indispensable to the original Avengers, Jack could be the perfect candidate for the burgeoning younger team.
