The first trailer for Disney+'s upcoming Hawkeye series teased the existence of an Avengers-themed musical, which may solve the ongoing money issues seen in previous MCU Phase 4 titles. During the first full trailer for Hawkeye, Jeremy Renner's Clint Barton is shown officially coming face-to-face with MCU newcomer Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld). The footage also reveals Clint's efforts in spending time with his family in New York City during the Christmas season. In doing so, he takes his kids to see Rogers: The Musical, a Broadway play adapting events encountered by Captain America and the Avengers for on-stage entertainment.

While the MCU has documented the struggles of a superhero's attempt at balancing an ordinary life with the pressures of being an Avenger, past titles have also scratched the surface on fame, whether welcomed or not. However, more recently, Phase 4 added a new discussion into the mix regarding the side effects of being an Avenger: the salary or lack thereof. Vision (Paul Bettany) notably bought a plot of land for Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) prior to the events of WandaVision, presumably with an income funded by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). That funding must have ended after Iron Man's death following Avengers: Endgame, considering Sam Wilson's failure to receive a loan in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier despite being a member of the Avengers. This proved the active Avengers aren't paid for their actions and instead rely on other means, which has resulted in money issues for some.

The introduction of Rogers: The Musical in Hawkeye might be the solution to some of the money struggles experienced by the Avengers. Not only does the Broadway show indicate Steve and his fellow Avengers are still heroes in the eyes of the world, specifically New York City, but it indicates there could be creative ways to use their likeness for funding. It seems unlikely another "billionaire, playboy, genius, philanthropist" will step in to pay the Avengers, but licensing could fix the ongoing problem. Licensing image rights for entertainment like Broadway shows could be a great way to build a stream of income now that Tony is gone.

Hawkeye Rogers the Musical Avengers Broadway

Aside from an actor playing Steve Rogers as Captain America, Rogers: The Musical also features versions of Black Widow, Thor, Loki, Hulk, and of course, Hawkeye. The fact that Clint takes his family to see the show leads viewers to believe he was well aware of the stage production before it opened on Broadway and supports it enough to attend the show. He possibly signed off on using his Hawkeye likeness or had some say in a licensing agreement. Either way, the in-universe Avengers musical opens the door for a new source of income, which could benefit retired, active, and future members of the superhero team.

Clint's journey in Hawkeye will shed more light on the figure's journey following Endgame. In doing so, it can give Phase 4 another chance at diving into a team member's adjustment to life following Tony's death. Without SHIELD and Tony's funding, it's unclear how Clint currently supports his family. There also isn't an Avengers Headquarters to work out of after it was destroyed in Endgame. It will be interesting to see how a twenty-something expects to earn a living as a young hero when Kate takes the mantle of Hawkeye by the end of the Disney+ series. It might be a while before any kind of Broadway stage productions welcome her into the mix if Hawkeye does indeed reveal licensing as a new source of income for the MCU's biggest protectors.
