The latest episode of Screen Rant's Pitch Meeting series takes aim at Marvel Studios' newest series, Hawkeye. The show aired its first two episodes November 24 on Disney+, catching up with Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) after the events of Endgame. However, Hawkeye turned out to be just as much about Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) as its titular Avenger. The show also introduced Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox), who will be getting her own spinoff titled Echo, and featured the anticipated return of Black Widow's Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh).

Inspired heavily by the Hawkeye comics written by Matt Fraction and illustrated by David Aja, the Disney+ adaptation finds Clint spending time with his family in New York City during the lead-up to the holidays, though he becomes sidetracked when Kate accidentally dons his old Ronin suit and attracts the attention of his past enemies. Thus, Clint must team up with the budding archer in order to take down the Tracksuit mafia and get back to his family in time for Christmas. Hawkeye's cast also includes Tony Dalton, Fra Fee, Linda Cardellini, and Vera Farmiga.

Now, the newest episode of Screen Rant's own Pitch Meeting series allows fans to step inside the hypothetical pitch meeting that led to Hawkeye that starts by pointing out how the show's title sounds similar to "hot guy." The Pitch Meeting episode hilariously takes aim at Hawkeye for many of the shortcomings critics and fans have been pointing to, mainly Clint's lack of screen time and the overabundance of cartoony villains. Despite it being intended as a long-overdue solo outing for Renner's master marksman, the Hawkeye series may have bitten off a little more than it could chew by juggling the introduction of Kate Bishop and multiple adversaries for the archery duo, such as the Tracksuit Mafia, Maya Lopez, and more.

The series also tried to continue Yelena's story as teased in Black Widow's post-credits scene and re-introduce Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio) to the MCU, the one "from that streaming show with the completely different vibe." Despite so much stacked against them, Clint and Kate get out of the entire ordeal without much of a struggle, "super easy, barely an inconvenience," as host Ryan George has coined. For those who enjoy poking fun at the faults of Marvel spinoffs, one for Hawkeye is already on the way in Echo.
