Filming for Hawkeye is underway, and set photos revealed that the Disney+ series includes Lucky the Pizza Dog. Jeremy Renner is reprising his MCU role as Clint Barton for the upcoming show, but the photos have also confirmed the long-running rumors that Hailee Steinfeld will be playing Kate Bishop, the person who takes over the Hawkeye moniker. While Clint has been a prominent figure in the MCU since Phase 1, Hawkeye will mark Kate's introduction into the franchise. The same goes for the four-legged fan-favorite character made popular by recent Marvel comics.

Before Disney+ launched, news about a Hawkeye spinoff series was already circulating. By April 2019, development was officially underway with rumors that it would focus on Clint passing on the Hawkeye mantle to Kate Bishop, teaching her how to be a hero without superpowers. Renner agreed to star in the series, which tapped Jonathan Igla at the helm. Although Steinfeld was said to have been offered the part of Kate over a year ago, there was never any type of confirmation until the actress was shown in set photos. Originally planned to commence filming in the summer of 2020, coronavirus delays pushed back production until late November.

With Hawkeye's production underway various set photos have been making their way online. Aside from Steinfeld's involvement, the photos showing the actors reveal a few key details. While some fans might be drawn to Steinfeld donned in Kate's iconic purple look while wielding a bow, others are noticing Clint's hearing aid. Granted, most eyes will be instantly drawn to the adorable golden retriever at Steinfeld's side. Those familiar with Marvel Comics would recognize the animal as Lucky the Pizza Dog, who first appeared in Matt Fraction's Hawkeye comics run.

What Lucky The Pizza Dog Means For The Hawkeye Show

Lucky was introduced in 2012's Hawkeye Vol. 4 #1 as a dog belonging to the "Tracksuit Mafia." After being mistreated by his owners, Lucky, who was named Arrow at the time, attacked the mafia to save Clint's life. Arrow was severely beaten for his actions, leading Clint to take him to an emergency veterinarian. The dog lived but ended up losing his left eye. After renaming him Lucky, the dog became a close companion to Hawkeye. When Kate came into the mix, Lucky took an instant liking to her. At one point, she even became Lucky's owner when she relocated to Los Angeles for a time. Not only has Lucky teamed up with a cat named Mewnir to take down Taskmaster, but he also had his own POV issue in Fraction's series. Lucky notably referred to himself as "Pizza Dog" due to his love for the food.

With Lucky's presence, as well as Clint's hearing loss, it seems Hawkeye will be following closely to Fraction's comic book storyline. Lucky will serve as a loyal sidekick to not only the original Hawkeye, but also to the young girl that will be learning how to handle the responsibilities needed to take over the mantle. While Lucky's presence could just be a fun nod to his comic book counterpart, it would be fun for viewers if he had a prominent role while facing off against various villains. Either way, nobody will be displeased with another pet added to the MCU.
