Kate Bishop actress Hailee Steinfeld expected to use real arrows on the MCU series Hawkeye. Marvel will return to live-action on Disney+ with a 6-episode event in Hawkeye, following their first foray into animation with What If...?. The miniseries will premiere on November 24 with two episodes and conclude during the week of Christmas on December 22.

Jeremy Renner has been portraying the MCU's master archer since his cameo appearance in 2011's Thor, and now he's finally receiving his well-earned solo debut. Created by Mad Men alum Jonathan Igla and based on Marvel Comics by Matt Fraction and David Aja, Hawkeye picks up with Clint Barton (Renner) after going down a dark path as Ronin in Avengers: Endgame. As he heads back to New York City to spend Christmas with his family, Clint is confronted by enemies from his past and is forced to team up with his young super-fan, Kate Bishop, portrayed by Steinfeld in her MCU debut.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Steinfeld discussed her extensive preparation to star in the Disney+ series, including watching videos of professional archers and taking lessons with an actual instructor. After all that training, Steinfeld headed to Atlanta to begin filming the show. Upon arrival, her co-star Jeremy Renner unexpectedly informed her that she wouldn't even use real arrows on the MCU show. Read what Steinfeld had to say below:

I wanted [the archery] to be second nature by the time I got out to Atlanta to shoot, but the first time we met, Jeremy was like, 'Listen, you're going to get there and you're not even shooting a real arrow, it's all CGI. But I was still grateful to have the mechanics down.

Though Steinfeld's commitment to the role is admirable, it's unfortunate she won't be able to showcase her finely-honed archery skills in Hawkeye. The show wisely avoids using real arrows on set for safety purposes and adds them after filming during post-production using CGI. However, this anecdote is a prime example of the type of enthusiasm Steinfeld will bring to Kate Bishop, a character whose introduction to the MCU is long overdue, many fans feel. Although, there is a strong consensus that Steinfeld is the perfect fit for bringing the budding archer to life.

The anticipation for Steinfeld's MCU debut is already sky-high, especially since fans know that her character will likely be taking over the Hawkeye mantle in the future, similar to how Black Widow and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier also signified passing of the torches. If the same applies to Hawkeye, Steinfeld should get the hang of her CGI arrows in no time as she continues her path to becoming an Avenger.
