A change in Disney's awards campaign could mean that Hawkeye season 2 is a possibility. Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld's Marvel Studios series premiered in late 2021 and functioned as a Christmas entry into the MCU. Hawkeye featured a definitive ending, but it may not be the total end of it.

Set after Avengers: Endgame, Hawkeye started with Clint Barton (Renner) spending some quality time with his three kids in New York City to watch Rogers the Musical. But as his secret stint as Ronin was threatened to be revealed, he was roped into a new mission where he met Kate Bishop (Steinfeld). Despite his initial hesitation to take on a mentee, he didn't have a choice but to get her involved, for both of their sakes. Despite Echo (Alaqua Cox) and the Tracksuit Mafia originally poised to be the show's primary villain, it was eventually revealed that their boss, Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio), was the real culprit. Luckily, in the end, both Barton and Bishop survived the whole ordeal in time for them to celebrate a happy Christmas.

Initially, Hawkeye was billed as a limited series as part of Disney's awards campaign. Based on Disney Studios Awards' official website, however, that has been changed. Now, Disney is submitting the Marvel Studios project for consideration in the Outstanding Comedy Series category. It's uncertain what prompted this change as there's no official explanation given. But this has convinced some that now, there's a chance for Hawkeye season 2.

Disney has also submitted Renner and Steinfeld for Lead Actor In A Comedy Series and Lead Actress In A Comedy Series, respectively, for their work in Hawkeye. D'Onofrio, Fra Fee, and Tony Dalton, on the other hand, are submitted for Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series, while Alaqua Cox, Florence Pugh, and Vera Farmiga for Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series. For context, Marvel hasn't released any information about whether or not Hawkeye will continue beyond its first season. That's unlike Moon Knight, which was branded a limited series from the get-go, meaning a sophomore year isn't in Marvel Studios' plan — at least not yet. What's interesting here is that Hawkeye has a satisfying ending. Its story can continue in other avenues like on the big screen, not to mention in the upcoming Echo spin-off. Moon Knight's post-credits scene, on the other hand, clearly lays the groundwork for a follow-up.

In the event that this actually means that Marvel Studios is planning Hawkeye season 2, it's curious when it might release. Looking at the MCU's schedule right now, it's quite packed until next year with a string of other films and shows that have yet to get a release date. So even if the show returns for a sophomore year, it may not be for a while. In terms of narrative, Hawkeye season 2 could see Barton continuing to train Bishop; perhaps it could even be the launch pad for a West Coast Avengers movie.
