There are many famous dogs that belong to several superheroes in both the Marvel and DC Universes. Krypto the Super Dog is Superman's loyal, powered canine pal. Ace the Bat-Hound guards Wayne Manor for Batman, the Dark Knight. Lockjaw is a giant teleporting bulldog who helps Marvel's Inhumans get around. However, there is one dog who is often overlooked, and many might not even know about him at all, despite how good of a boy he is. He's gone by many names: Arrow, Lucky, and even just Dog. However, the name that stuck was Pizza Dog (for his love of pizza), and he belongs to Marvel's Hawkeye. Why is he so good? Because Pizza Dog once solved a murder, despite being just an average dog that Clint Barton rescued one day.

Back in 2012, Matt Fraction and David Aja were writing the award-winning Hawkeye series, and one issue, in particular, netted them an Eisner award (the comic book version of an Oscar) for a single issue: Hawkeye #11. The issue received multitudes of praise, despite the fact that Hawkeye himself was barely featured in its pages. The reason for this was because Hawkeye #11 is all about Pizza Dog, and his investigation into a murder that took place on the rooftop of Clint Barton's building.

The story is told entirely from Pizza Dog's perspective, using icons to depict the point of view of a dog and their unique way of taking in input from their surroundings. Many of the icons symbolize specific smells that Pizza Dog comes into contact with, many of which he identifies with certain characters like Clint or Kate Bishop, just as an actual dog would. Some dialogue is heard by the canine, though he only understands key words such as names or commands, just like a dog. Everything else is presented as imperceptible squiggly lines.

After fans follow Pizza Dog for an entire day, they get to see him investigate and discover the killers at the issue's end, the culprits being the Tracksuit Mafia, who Clint had been dealing with on a consistent basis. It's a wonderful comic, featuring a character that's incredibly engaging, despite being just an average dog. The issue completely broke the barriers of what a comic can communicate, especially considering that it's heavy on the images and iconography, with next to no reliance on actual dialogue in order to fit the primary character.

With the news that the upcoming MCU Hawkeye series for Disney+ will be taking several inspirations and influences from Fraction and Aja's run, it would be a massive loss if Marvel Studios chooses to neglect the inclusion of such a great character, and more importantly, a really good boy. Hopefully, fans might be able to see the MCU version of Pizza Dog soon. He certainly deserves it.
