Jeremy Renner joked that Clint Barton is "The MCU dad" at the launch event for Hawkeye when asked about the character's relationship with Kate Bishop when compared to other characters. Renner stars alongside Hailee Steinfeld, who will star as future young Avenger Kate Bishop in the Disney+ series. The series will premiere on November 24th.

Clint Barton (Renner) has been seen as the grounded, more-human side of the Avengers in the MCU. Among super-soldiers, Norse gods, and genius billionaire playboy philanthropists, Barton is simply a mortal man with a family he hopes to come home to after every mission. Films such as Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers: Endgame highlighted his paternal side, seeing him care for Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), daughter Lila (Ava Russo), and sons Cooper (Ben Sakamoto) and Nathaniel (Cade Woodward). Steinfeld has teased Clint's dynamic with Kate, and how she looks up to the Avenger's residential archer, and now Renner has joked about Clint's dynamic with Kate, and how it compares to previous relationships.

In a video posted on Variety's Twitter account, Renner was asked how Clint's relationship with his children and how it felt to explore the character's family side during the launch event for Hawkeye. Looking back at Clint's relationship with Lila, Wanda, Natasha, and now Kate, Renner joked that Clint is "the MCU dad", and that perhaps is his superpower. Renner then said that he feels that all parents are superheroes. Check out his comments below:

"If you look at all of Clint's relations. He's been with Wanda and getting her to be convinced and 'put your boots on, let's go be an Avenger.' Or if it's with Natasha, always all through this thing. And then, with now Hailee... maybe he's just sort of the MCU dad. Maybe that's his superpower."

As well as his new dynamic with Kate Bishop, Hawkeye promises to pick up where Avengers: Endgame left him and the rest of the Barton family. Clint's family was been confirmed to return, with trailers teasing Clint spending the holidays in New York with his children and promising Lila he'll return from his mission by Christmas eve. Recent trailers have also confirmed the return of Linda Cardellini as Clint's wife Laura, with the hero apologizing for his absence while he juggles his domestic and superhero lives over the phone.

Clint's domestic life away from his Avengers duties have often been a key feature of his arc in the MCU, grounding the hero and giving him depth in Age of Ultron, while motivating him to reverse Thanos' (Josh Brolin) actions in Endgame. However, Hawkeye will be the perfect opportunity to fully showcase his paternal side. His relationship with Kate will see the hero once more become a mentor/guide to a young hero, much like how he guided and protected Wanda from a superpowered loner to Avenger throughout Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America Civil War. The comedic tone Christmas setting, though primarily a product of the Hawkeye source material, also is a perfect backdrop to explore the Barton's family life. Clint's struggle between superhero missions and being a present father fits well with the setting, bringing to mind seasonal comedies, such as Jingle All the Way, which feature similar dynamics at their core. With Clint's promises to his family being featured so much promotional material, it is clear Hawkeye will be a full showcase of Clint's more grounded, human side that makes the character stand out among his teammates.
