Warning! Spoilers for Thunderbolts #1 by Marvel Comics

As the head of the Thunderbolts, one might think that Hawkeye has gained the respect of his fellow Marvel heroes; however, even with the new role, Clint Barton isn't given a fair shake as a leader. In Thunderbolts #1 by Marvel Comics, Hawkeye is tasked with guiding the new team of heroes, but after crucial information is withheld from him and a secret leader is installed being his back, it shows the hero still isn't respected by his peers.

Clint Barton has always struggled to earn the respect of his fellow heroes and those within the Marvel Universe. While Hawkeye has been a longtime member of the Avengers and helped the team in some of its greatest victories, his lack of powers compared to powerful cosmic beings, gods, and superpowered individuals, has made him stand out as one of the weaker heroes. Even with his incredible archery skills, Hawkeye is often the butt of jokes among the team. Now, despite leading Marvel's new Thunderbolts, Hawkeye still isn't trusted to carry out the job.

In Thunderbolts #1 by Jim Zub, Sean Izaakse, Java Tartaglia, and VC's Joe Sabino from Marvel Comics, Hawkeye is tasked with leading the new Thunderbolts as the team has one key advantage over the Avengers as they can legally operate in New York without interference. However, when Hawkeye is learning about his recruits on the team, they refuse to tell him information about Gutsen Glory and his background, telling Clint Barton it's "classified."

Hawkeye Not Respected By The Avengers

While Hawkeye can't even gain basic information on one of his new recruits, the ultimate sign of disrespect happens towards the end of the issue. After Hawkeye fights for Monica Rambeau to be on the team with mayor Luke Cage, the former Power Man meets with Spectrum and tells her she was his "top pick" to lead the Thunderbolts. Cage admits that Hawkeye "means well" but isn't the guy to lead the team. He asks Spectrum to stick around and help the Thunderbolts, essentially asking her to be the team's real leader.

Hawkeye Not Respected Thunderbolt

With those managing the operations of the Thunderbolts withholding key information from Hawkeye, and the fact Luke Cage doesn't have faith in Clint Barton leading the team, the longtime Avenger isn't shown the respect he deserves for taking on the role. How Hawkeye is treated as the leader of the Thunderbolts proves that Marvel still doesn't respect him as a hero, as, despite his impressive resume, he isn't given the same confidence as other Avengers would get.
