Hawkeye producer responded to the rumors of a potential upcoming Young Avengers project. Hawkeye, which is set to premiere the first two episodes of its six episode season on Disney+ on November 24, is the fourth Marvel Cinematic Universe live-action series of Phase 4. It will follow Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye after leaving the Avengers and beginning to lose his hearing. When on vacation in New York City with his family (played by Linda Cardellini, Ava Russo, Ben Sakamoto, and Cade Woodward) he becomes wrapped up in the activities of a criminal organization and reluctantly begins to mentor the promising archer Kate Bishop, played by Hailee Steinfeld.

In the comics, Kate Bishop eventually takes on the mantle of Hawkeye and leads the Young Avengers. This is a group of young heroes related in some way to the original Avengers who form in the wake of Scarlet Witch damaging the Avengers hideout and causing the team to abandon it. The current lineup in the comics also includes Marvel Boy, Miss America, and Patriot, but the founding members were Iron Kid, Lieutenant America, Teen-Hulk, and Thor Jr.

Speaking with Inverse, producer Trinh Tran (who also produced Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame) was asked if Kate Bishop's presence in this series was meant to help set up a future Young Avengers project. She slightly dodged the question, saying that their "biggest focus is making sure she comes off in the right way in this project." However, she hinted at Bishop's future if the show does well, saying that "if we land her in a great way and she's well-perceived by everybody, who knows what the future can hold?" "I love her character, and I think our biggest focus is making sure she comes off in the right way in this project. Then, we'll see how it goes. I mean, if we land her in a great way and she's well-perceived by everybody, who knows what the future can hold? She's an amazing character. I really do think she shines in this story. And I hope everybody sees that as well."

Previously, Hailee Steinfeld has given a similar answer to the question, saying that she's just grateful to be with Marvel and "it's only the beginning." Everyone may be playing coy about the Young Avengers specifically, but it's certain that Kate Bishop has a big future with the MCU. Whether this is leading a brand new team or just being a part of the larger story (which will also include an already greenlit spinoff series about Alaqua Cox's Hawkeye character Echo) remains to be seen.

To match the comics lineup of Young Avengers, the MCU will have to lay a lot of groundwork beyond just introducing Kate Bishop in Hawkeye. However, they are indeed setting up many ways for their classics Avengers team to pass the torch, including Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova continuing the legacy of Black Widow, Natalie Portman's Jane Foster becoming a female version of Thor, Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson taking up the Captain America shield, and Ironheart, who will be introduced in Black Panther 2, making her own Iron Man armor. With all these characters either joining the MCU or embracing new powers, there is strong potential for a new teamup of some kind in the future.
