Hailee Steinfeld addresses the possibility of her Hawkeye character joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s seemingly inevitable formation of the Young Avengers. Marvel Studios’ next live-action series on Disney+, Hawkeye, will see Jeremy Renner reprise his titular role as Clint Barton alongside newcomer Kate Bishop (Steinfeld). Similar to the character’s comic book arc, Bishop is set to inherit the Hawkeye mantle in the MCU.

As seen in previous Hawkeye trailers and clips, Marvel seems to be loosely adapting Matt Fraction and David Aja’s 2013 solo series, My Life As a Weapon, which follows Barton in New York City and outlines his first meeting with Bishop alongside Lucky the Pizza Dog. In addition to its leads, the series will star Vera Farmiga as Bishop’s mother, Eleanor, Zahn McClarnon, Brian d'Arcy James, Tony Dalton, Alaqua Cox, and Fra Fee as new characters. Fresh off of Black Widow’s post-credits scene, Florence Pugh will appear as Yelena Belova, reprising her role from Natasha Romanoff's solo film, who will presumably become the MCU’s next Black Widow. With Maya Lopez aka Echo (Cox) also set to appear in Hawkeye, it seems clear Phase 4 is laying the foundation for many characters who could go on to form the Young Avengers.

During a Hawkeye press conference hosted by ComicBook.com, Steinfeld spoke about the possibility of her character joining the Young Avengers. Without saying too much, the actress merely expressed how grateful she is to be a part of the MCU. Steinfeld said she felt it was "crazy" that she was even sitting with the Hawkeye cast at all. Read what she had to say below:

"I mean, listen, this feels so crazy to me right now just sitting here with this group of people. I'm so grateful to be a part of this show in this universe and it's only the beginning. This shows not even out so I'm looking forward to that day."

Other Young Avengers have already shown up in Marvel Studios’ Disney+ shows. For example, WandaVision featured Scarlet Witch’s children, Tommy/Speed (Jett Klyne) and Billy/Wiccan (Julian Hilliard), while The Falcon and the Winter Soldier introduced Eli Bradley/Patriot (Elijah Richardson). On top of Steinfeld and Pugh’s characters appearing in Hawkeye, Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), Riri Williams/Ironheart (Dominique Thorne), and Echo will appear in their shows, Ms. Marvel, Iron Heart, and Echo, respectively. Additionally, America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) is set to appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness before a grown Cassie Lang/Stature (Kathryn Newton) debuts in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. So, while the official team may not assemble until Phase 5 or later, it’s safe to assume Kevin Feige and company have a road map for the Young Avengers.

Right now, the MCU is very much focused on its multiversal arc. It’s worth mentioning that a key member of the Young Avengers in the comics is Iron Lad, a variant of Nathaniel Richards aka Kang the Conqueror. MCU fans have already met another variant of Kang in Loki’s He Who Remains (Johnathan Majors). Majors will star as Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and, presumably, a slew of other projects as the MCU’s new 'Big Bad.' Down the road, when Kang is defeated, Iron Lad’s introduction is entirely possible. In the comics, Richards learns of his evil destiny and travels back in time to chart a more heroic life for himself. This new version of himself becomes Iron Lad and founds the Young Avengers. However, until more concrete evidence arises, this is all mere fan speculation. For now, all eyes are on Steinfeld’s Bishop when she debuts in Hawkeye on November 24.
