Warning! Spoilers ahead for Marvel's Hawkeye episode 4.

Marvel's Hawkeye just confirmed that the MCU's Clint Barton can use his grossest weapon from the comics if needed. In Hawkeye episode 4, Clint and Kate Bishop have their own mini Christmas party while continuing to work their case regarding Ronin, the Tracksuit Mafia, and a stolen watch taken from the Avengers compound. However, Clint also shows Kate just how skilled and accurate he can be even without a bow and arrow.

Because Clint is missing out on holiday activities with his family, Hawkeye episode 4 sees Kate offering up some Christmas cheer of her own with decorations, ugly sweaters, movies, and plenty of drinks. Not only is it a nice gesture on Kate Bishop's part, but it's also a perfect opportunity for the two new partners to bond in the MCU. Additionally, while the two archers decorate a tree, Clint shares some cool archery tricks he can do like splitting an arrow in half with a second shot.

However, Clint also reveals to Kate that he can knock someone out from 20 feet away with one of the coin-shaped ornaments they're hanging up, saying that he could also do so with a quarter or a nickel. After proving it to her, Hawkeye teaches Bishop the trick shot as well, turning off the tv from down the hall with a flick of her fingers. While it's certainly impressive, it also implies that if the MCU's Hawkeye were ever in a desperate situation, he could do what his Marvel Comics counterpart did in Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch's Ultimates 2 #10. Facing execution after being held captive by The Liberators, Clint tore off his fingernails and used them as lethal projectiles to take out his captors.

Ultimate-Hawkeye-Fingernails

While it's an incredibly gross move that no doubt requires a massively high pain tolerance, the MCU's Clint Barton has essentially proven that he could do the same. He'd likely have to be within 20 feet for it to be deadly, but that still leaves Barton a lot of room to work with if he were ever cornered and as desperate as his comics counterpart was. As gross as it is, there's no denying that it's one of Hawkeye's most hardcore moves from Marvel's Ultimate line of comics.

It's unlikely that firing fingernails will actually be seen from the MCU's version of Hawkeye, but the implication that he could is impressive in its own right. Likewise, the ability to shoot even the smallest of projectiles with nothing but his hands also confirms that a bow and arrow has only been a preference and never a requirement. Accuracy is Clint Barton's true power (Kate Bishop's too), and Hawkeye episode 4 just proved that fact (albeit in a much less gross way than the comics did).
