With Clint taking responsibility for a young woman who has no superhero training, he made a lot of questionable decisions along the way. For a veteran superhero and spy, he did a lot to put Kate in danger, ruin his chances to get home for Christmas, and almost died more than once thanks to his missteps. Some of Clint's questionable decisions in Hawkeye took place before the series even began.

Killing Maya's Dad

The main conflict in Hawkeye happened because of a questionable decision Clint Barton made during the Blip, when he was operating in the shadows as Ronin. In Avengers: Endgame, fans learned that Clint was killing villains as Ronin after losing his family in the Blip.

However, what happened with Maya's dad was much darker than that. Clint admitted that he killed her father and his men when someone tipped him off, and that he knew the information came from Wilson Fisk. This was much worse than just killing bad people, and it destroyed Maya's life.

Allowing His Ronin Equipment To Fall Into The Wrong Hands

When Clint gave up his role as Ronin and returned to his job as Hawkeye, he made a massively questionable decision when he didn't destroy all the evidence that he was Ronin. He didn't destroy the costume or get rid of the sword.

This allowed both of them to end up put up for auction on the black market. If Clint had destroyed these like he should have, Kate never would have gotten her hands on the costume and would never have been in the danger she was. It was a strange move by one of the most intelligent characters in Hawkeye.

Agreeing To Help Kate Bishop

Clint's most questionable decision in Hawkeye was agreeing to work with Kate Bishop at all. Hawkeye wanted to protect and save Kate, but when he went a step further and began to allow her to go with him on his missions, it did nothing but put a young woman in danger.

Kate was a likeable character in Hawkeye, but untrained at crimefighting, but Clint put her in danger every step of the way. She almost died more than once, and it was all because Clint decided to let her fight criminals by his side.

Continuing To Antagonize The Track Suit Mafia

When Kate Bishop began to fight the Track Suit Mafia in the Ronin costume, she put a giant target on her head. She had no idea that their leader, Maya, had a history with Ronin. However, Clint Barton knew that Maya had a grudge to hold.

Knowing that these criminals wanted Ronin dead, and knowing that they knew Kate's identity, Clint began to taunt and antagonize them. While Clint thought they might be a joke, they posed a genuine threat to Kate, and he still decided to keep poking them.

Revealing His Ronin Identity To Kate

Clint Barton killed a lot of people as Ronin. Black Widow knew what Clint did, rescued him from his pain and way of life, and possibly even helped him hide and cover up his past. Some people knew, including Yelena Belova, but it was a secret Clint needs to remain hidden.

With the possibility of prison if the world finds out, Clint made the questionable decision to admit to Kate that he was Ronin and that he killed a lot of people. Trust was needed if they were to be partners, but it was a very risky decision.

Allowing Kate To Get Into More Trouble

When Hawkeye learned that a Black Widow was after them, and he knew that could mean death was coming, he cut Kate Bishop loose. He knew that she could die if she stuck with him, and he wanted nothing to do with that. It didn't matter, because Kate came back and Clint immediately decided to let her back in.

Clint probably knew that she could keep fighting, with or without him, but he gave her all the hope she needed to put her life in danger, a very questionable decision on his part, especially when he let her go with him after he learned Kingpin was involved.

Becoming Ronin Again

Clint Barton went to talk to Black Widow figuratively, and talked about how much he missed her. He then said he was sorry for what he now had to do. That included the very questionable decision of putting the Ronin costume back on and attacking the Track Suit Mafia.

He took everyone out except for Maya. This was more than risky. The police still considered Ronin to be a wanted man, and he put his entire freedom at risk to pull this stunt, especially after he tried to convince Maya that Natasha was Ronin.

Unmasking Himself To Maya

Clint Barton knew that Maya wanted nothing more than to kill Ronin. She had revenge in mind and wanted vengeance for her father's murder. When Clint realized that Maya wouldn't stop hunting him and Kate until she knew the truth, he gave it to her.

Clint unmasked to Maya as Ronin and told her that he did kill her father. He also told her that he was tipped off by Maya's father's own boss, which meant they were betrayed. It was a risky decision because he gave his identity to yet another person, yet showed that Clint was one of the bravest characters in Hawkeye.

Submitting Himself To Yelena

Clint knew when he saw a Black Widow was trying to kill him that things had just gotten deadly. However, he didn't know it was Yelena Belova until Kate Bishop told him. At that point, things were different and Clint knew he had a decision to make.

Clint fought Yelena once and lived when Kate saved him. Kate then kept Yelena busy the second attack long enough for Clint to get a small reprieve. The third battle saw Clint with no help and no chance. Clint thenhawkeye-clint-barton-questionable-decisions-ranked-mcu-disney-plus submitted to Yelena and believed he could talk her down. He was right and gave her closure, but it was a questionable decision against a Black Widow assassin trained in the Red Room.

There was a big question left unanswered in Hawkeye. Was Clint Barton completely honest with Kate Bishop when it comes to his sticking around the help her with her Track Suit Mafia problem? From the start, it was no secret that Clint wanted to get the Ronin suit back.

Clint then made a lot of questionable decisions concerning putting Kate in danger throughout the series, but he had one thing he wanted more than any other. He wanted the watch that would implicate his wife as a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Was Clint really there to help Kate, or was he using her to save his own family?
